Kicking off the week with yet another post with more flower photos. This is the last one, I swear :) Happy Monday, everyone!

ETA: I just realized I took photos in the exact same spot last year for the same reasons.

Unlikeliest Source

by - Thursday, February 28, 2013
I fell for J.Crew's recent sale again (40% off PLUS free shipping?! unheard of) and picked up a yellow turtleneck. I figured this would be a practical addition because I've started to get some side-eye at work from wearing my red turtleneck multiple times a week. The only problem is, the dark shade of yellow isn't as easy to style as red. Side note: Perhaps a different ways to wear red turtleneck post soon -- any interest?

When I was backing up photos over the weekend, I came across one of my pre-teen self wearing what I dubbed "my McDonald's outfit." What else does red/yellow/white remind a kid of besides delicious fast food reserved only for special occasions?

So for today's look, I drew inspiration from my childhood photo by using updated clothing items for a more grown-up look. I kept the same theme of stripes with red and yellow accents, but didn't let patterns nor colors dominate the outfit.

Bright Idea

by - Tuesday, January 29, 2013
Today's outfit was perfect for morning temperatures in the 40s. But by late afternoon, I was sweating it out in this scarf + sweater + blazer combo for photos. Hey, if this spring weather is here to stay, I'll gladly stop all complaints.

Work has been kicking my butt, so my brain's fried by the time I get home. Sorry for more weather-related ramblings.

To the Maxi

by - Thursday, August 02, 2012
I lied about this dress in my fitting room post. A few strategic pulls here and some folds there, and I'm able to secure the maxi to fall about an inch off the ground. No need to shell out money for alterations after all. Yay! That made my day.

This is the first long dress I own where I have to watch my steps. Apparently the narrower bottom doesn't accommodate my unbeknownst-to-me large strides. Now I know why I arrive at appointments early.

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Spot the Stripes

by - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
The third time's the charm for these adorable striped flats (if I may say so myself). The first pair fit much too small. The second pair was bought on sale, waiting to be worn with the right outfit. As it sat there, J.Crew decided to discount the flats even further, so back goes pair #2. Say hello to pair #3, bought during the recent final sale (which for once I didn't dread over fit).

That's my Goldilocks moment of the sale season.

Have a great day!

Brighter Than the Sun

by - Sunday, June 10, 2012
I've been playing it safe when it came to this turquoise necklace. Only pairing it with neutrals, think: white, gray, black, and repeat. Well, I'm scared no more!

I initially wore the necklace underneath the sweater, in the exposed part of my neck. I thought a little bit of turquoise peeking out would look cute, but the necklace just didn't sit right. So outside it went. A much better result, if I may say so myself. I also liked how the necklace curves and drapes around the neckline of the sweater.

Note to self: must remember to wear this color combination again!

Green & Pink

by - Friday, June 08, 2012
I'm giving my feet a break today from wearing heels all week. I considered my boat shoes but it doesn't seem to go with the shape of the skirt, so a trusty pair of ballet flats it is. Though not perfect (these H&M flats I've been coveting would be better), gotta work with what's in the closet ;)

Loop-de-doop

by - Thursday, May 17, 2012
I had pinned this image awhile back with every intention of trying out each of the 12 new (to me) ways to tie a belt. Fast forward to now, and I've yet to try a single one. I had forgotten about my pin until this morning when I was struggling with my wide brown belt. My belt was ultimately too wide and too short for intricate loops and knots. So I improvised and came up with something close to #6. Ehh... it's not the best, but it worked for my purposes.

PS - My new wedges are currently $125 with an extra 30% off and free shipping. I went up half a size due to slightly wide feet and they fit me perfectly. I wore them all day and am happy to report no blisters, no pinching; it's as if I was walking on air.

Lost and Found

by - Thursday, January 19, 2012
I dug up a few outfit pictures from last year that were lost in the shuffle (aka passed over for better ones at the time). Upon further inspection, some sure do look repetitive. Hopefully I'll be back in the swing of things soon with appropriate seasonal outfits. In the meantime, I'll be counting down the days to spring.

Fall-en Leaves

by - Monday, November 07, 2011
I took these pictures at a local park where people like to walk their pets. By pets I always meant dogs. Not today though because I had my first pig sighting. Not on a leash, trotting towards me with the owner frantically chasing after it. Too bad I was worried about my tripod being knocked over I could've tried to take a video. D'oh! The cute and funny sight instantly perked up my day.

Bundled Up

by - Wednesday, October 05, 2011
It was a chilly 45 degrees the other morning (I'm a wuss). Temperatures dropped suddenly overnight and I had forgotten how much is too much to wear at one time, so on everything went. I worked up a sweat in no time walking up and down this set of stairs. Hey, I'll take overly warm over shivering any day!

Bloomed

by - Sunday, September 18, 2011
Paths through the woods are one of my favorite places to take pictures. It's usually pretty secluded with only a slim chance of crossing paths with pedestrians or bikers. On this particular day, I found myself not too far away from a lady singing opera music. What a voice! The way it carried and resonated through the woods was a treat. Usually I'm the model of efficiency when it comes to taking outfit pictures, but not today. And I've got the bug bites to prove it :)

Petite Fashion Challenge #10: Summer to Fall

by - Wednesday, August 31, 2011
Hosted by Liza @ Fashion for Teens, Petite Fashion Challenge #10: Summer to Fall has us taking traditionally summer pieces (ie: tank tops, shorts, mini skirts, sundresses, etc) and make them appropriate for fall.

A sundress was my chosen piece of clothing for both looks.

For a casual summer outfit: I raised the hemline, wore a bag crossbody and added flip-flops. I accessorized with fun flower pins, rings, and a denim jacket for chillier weather at night.

For the transition to fall: I played off the dress' print and used darker shades of green and brown for the rest of the outfit. A longer jacket and booties finished off the look. I considered wearing tights, but it didn't seem right with the fabric and print of the dress.

New Shoessss

by - Monday, August 29, 2011
Through Suddenlee, I was able to get my hands on this pair of Zara court shoe with snakeskin toe, size 36. They are a great alternative to this gorgeous Alejandro Ingelmo snake pump (sold here) which I fell in love with but knew I could never handle the heel height. The Zara pair did not have the straight heel, but it's walkable at a little over 3" in height. I took my regular size in these shoes and they are a perfect fit. I love the pointy toe without being too Halloween witch-like.

The pumps are surprisingly comfortable, with plenty of padding from the heel to the toe. Unlike some of the flats I own, these didn't require a break-in period. There is some toe cleavage (which I like, but others may not care for) but not as much as the Ann Taylor perfect patent pumps. The only negative is the $90 price tag. I didn't want to take a chance with it selling out before the next semi-annual sale, so I caved.

Two snake print items in a month and a half? I do believe I'm slowly getting over my phobia ;)

*My tripod (and sunglasses) weren't around, so thank you to my patient boyfriend for taking these photos!

Last Minute

by - Monday, August 15, 2011
Bf bought a $10 for $20 Groupon to Old Navy, but could only find a polo for $15, so the remaining amount was up to me. Just my luck, they were having a shorts sale that final weekend with many at $5. $5 shorts?! (Can you tell I'm not a great bargain hunter?) Even better, a lot of small sizes were left. I picked up these pink/purple shorts with a longer inseam than what I'm used to. No biggie; I need to start the transition away from short shorts and this was the perfect starter item.

I know I have a lot of pink items in my closet, so I wished these came in other fun colors. But for my first pair of colorful shorts at $2.50, I shouldn't nitpick too much.

Are you a fan of colored shorts?

A big thanks to Sunshine for the hidden-face-behind-leaves idea :)

PFC #9: Heat Wave Appropriate

by - Saturday, July 30, 2011
Hosted by Elle @ Fast Food & Fast Fashion, Petite Fashion Challenge #9: Heat Wave Appropriate has us creating a work outfit that accounts for the various environmental factors that plague us in the summer. How do you dress when it's 90 degrees outside and 65 degrees inside?

I had an extremely hard time with this challenge. Since my work place is very casual, I try to wear my most comfortable clothes (usually the bummiest) when there's a heat wave. To meet the requirements for this challenge, I picked dressier but still light-weight items that are machine washable because the worst is sweating through dry-clean only clothes in the heat. The choice was between light-colored fabric vs. dark-colored fabric. With lighter colors, sweat stains are more visible. But with darker colors, you tend to sweat more. So... it came down to grossing others out or dealing with periodic waves of hot flashes? (Ok, I exaggerate, it's mostly not that bad) I chose the former.

For the commute: A tee, pencil skirt, and flats.

For work: Don a blazer and swap out the flats for a pair of pumps.

Day 10/30: Lace as Base

by - Wednesday, June 22, 2011
The weather has gotten to me. I had forgotten how hot and humid summers are even if I'm "only" outside when walking to and from the car. This lace dress (worn as a top) is perfect for hot and humid days. The 3/4 sleeve is conservative enough for a casual work environment while the slip underneath allows for breathing room. Now if only I can remain inconspicuous, you bet I'd be wearing this every day for the rest of summer. How do you remain cool in this heat?

Day 9/30: Summer Pastels

by - Tuesday, June 21, 2011
Here's a little secret: I had a hard time rounding out my thirty items for this challenge, so I stuck in a few pieces (Miu Miu flats, ASOS skirt) that haven't been getting much love prior to the challenge. Needless to say, there's a reason why these two have been put on the back burner -- I'm still not done obsessing over newer items. My goal is to wear each item at least twice, so here's to hoping this won't be the only time these two make an appearance!
