Unfortunately the pale yellow tank in today's outfit looks washed out, with the color blending right in with the white stripes on the dress. The yellow looked more vivid in real life, but just doesn't photograph well. Yellow and navy is one of my favorite color pairings, but only when the contrast is more apparent, a la with a bolder, brighter yellow.

Today's outfit is a change of pace for me. Instead of dark colors, I wore pastels in airy fabrics to combat the summer humidity.

I bought a new camera lens recently and I've been having so much fun with it in recent outfit posts. It's my first prime lens, so there's a bit of a learning curve. I still find myself wanting to set the tripod down anywhere before zooming in to frame the shot. Instead, now I have to place the tripod farther away to capture a full body shot. It's a longer walk back and forth with a self-timer, but the prettier bokeh background is worth the effort. Any tips for newbies on using a prime lens would be much appreciated!

I'm not sure why it's happening now, but I've been on a home decorating kick lately (browsing Etsy for little knick knacks sure is addicting!) As part of the process, I moved my non-jewelry accessories from the closet over to my makeshift-desk-as-vanity. One of the little treasures I rediscovered is this polka dotted bow tie. So for today's outfit, I added a little whimsy to an otherwise staid look.

Yellow, my favorite color to brighten up a rainy day. Or like most East Coasters have experienced this week, multiple rainy days. Thank goodness for some sunshine this weekend. Have a good one!

A big thanks to everyone who shared their opinions to my Sperry dilemma. In the end, practicality won out and I chose to keep the linen/oat pair. The colors are neutral enough to be worn year-round and I won't be mistaken for a big kid (even though I act like one). If I ever decide to go for a second pair, you bet I'll be picking out something bright and colorful :)

Note to self: try with a longer scarf next time.

Every once in awhile I try to mix things up here on the blog. Many outfits are experiments as I dip my foot out of my comfort zone. As a result, many looks are misses more so than hits. Today's trial item is a pair of leggings. I've been tucking skinny/straight jeans into boots, but can never avoid the bunching around the knees. Leggings solved that issue, but now I have no idea what to wear on top. I don't own any long sweaters or tunics, so that left a makeshift dress belted to resemble a tunic and a long boyfriend cardigan. Final verdict after seeing photos? Ehh.

How do you like to pair leggings?

Wearing a little red and some pink for today's occasion. Or in our household, it'll be known as VaLINtine's Day. We'll be staying in tonight to watch Knicks vs. Raptors as bf is all caught up in the hoopla. This weekend though, I'll be dragging him out to see The Vow, muahaha. Channing Tatum in a chick flick?! Sold. A no-brainer, actually.

I love everything about the Pinterest image that inspired today's outfit. Her color pairings, the starchiness of the scarf, grey skinnies, the black pointy pumps! Minus the scarf, everything else is going on my ever-growing wishlist.

Black suede booties have been on my wants list for awhile now (yes, apparently brown ones aren't enough). I first saw Adrienne Vittadini Adam booties on Cher and Jean well after it had long sold out. I've been keeping my eyes on similar silhouettes this season and stumbled upon these MICHAEL Michael Kors Adena booties, but the retail price and extreme front dip gave me pause.

Weeks later, I just happened to see the Adam pop up on a flash sale site and couldn't believe my luck. Shortly after receiving my package, I saw Annie's review on the Adena and loved it on her. The front dip I wasn't sure about looked much better on a foot in real life than by itself in stock photos. Not wanting any regrets, I decided it would be best to have both pairs in my hands for a better comparison (before the return window for the Adam closed). Surprisingly I had a hard time locating an Adena in my size, so by the time I found one, all thoughts of paying retail price went out the window. It's funny when low supply vs high demand forced me to rethink my willingness-to-pay-scale ("ehh I don't want to pay that" vs "alright I give in")

I'm glad I had a chance to compare both at the same time because I would've been kicking myself with the "what if?" game otherwise. I took my usual size 6 in both pairs but neither were a perfect fit. The Adam were a bit tight in the toebox initially, but now I think my foot has shrunk with the cooler temperatures, because fit isn't an issue anymore. The Adena was loose in the ankles and would probably need a heel grip to potentially solve that problem.
