Day 10/30: Lace as Base
Wednesday, June 22, 2011The weather has gotten to me. I had forgotten how hot and humid summers are even if I'm "only" outside when walking to and from the car. This lace dress (worn as a top) is perfect for hot and humid days. The 3/4 sleeve is conservative enough for a casual work environment while the slip underneath allows for breathing room. Now if only I can remain inconspicuous, you bet I'd be wearing this every day for the rest of summer. How do you remain cool in this heat?
necklace: Forever 21 (currently sold here)
dress as top: Forever 21 (similar - sleeveless)
belt: H&M (may still be in stores)
skirt: LOFT
bag: Longchamp (currently sold here)
shoes: Nine West (currently sold here)

Hi Cee! I remain cool in the heat by wearing sleeveless dresses and tops and bringing my blazer/cardi to work....
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit- pretty and ultra feminine..LOVE.
omgosh!! i have the same forever 21 lace top/dress (i think every blogger does hahahahah) i love how you styled it as a top with your bright floral pretty skirt!
ReplyDeleteLove how you can turn whole dresses into either tops or skirts! I bet if you mixed this enough - no one at the office would even notice ;) Anyhoo, the lace looks so pretty with the floral!
ReplyDeleteTo stay cool, I feel like I'm skirting the line between business casual and casual. I like to wear maxis or any kind of sleeveless dress paired with either lace / crochet cardis or vests. The cover-ups cover the shoulders and straps while allowing plenty of air in to keep you cool.
What a great idea to wear a lace dress as a slip! By the way, I love those shoes and just ordered a pair. And gotta love that they're on sale!
ReplyDeleteLooking good in the heat, Cee! I don't get too hot in the summer since work usually crank up the A/C to a temperature that require fleece jacket. At home, I wear tank top and short shorts. :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loving this combo of lace and florals. I need to find a lace dress immediately! The necklace looks beautiful and perfectly accents the colors in your skirt.
ReplyDeleteGreat look, doll!

A tank top when I'm outside and a parka for inside...that's my summer plan right there.
ReplyDelete(Also, have I complained about the temperature disparity in my life enough yet? I don't think I've talked about anything else for days...)
I'm pretty sure, knowing you, you could manage to wear this dress every day for the summer with enough creativity that nobody would even realize it was the same dress :)
This outfit is absolutely, stunningly beautiful - maybe my favorite I've seen on you. I'm sooo tempted to buy the "similar" F21 lace dress but they only have medium, so I'd have to tailor it myself (so not worth it to have someone else tailor it at 22 bucks!), which isn't the end of the world.. hmm..!!
ReplyDeleteLove the shoes!! Tempted to buy those too!
the lace paired w/ the floral is so pretty! i love all of the color you've been wearing. it really hasnt gotten warm here, but when it hopefully does ill just gravitate to more linen and do a lot of lightweight layering :)
ReplyDeleteI love the lace and floral together. I have the top version of that dress, and I'm pretty sure I'll be borrowing your outfit idea this summer. :)
ReplyDeletei love the pairing of the lace dress with the floral skirt! definitely one of my fave outfits of yours!
ReplyDeletecute & little
this is such an airy and bright summer outfit.
ReplyDeletethankfully, i can get away with short sleeves b/c i wear a white coat to work/school. alternatively, i wear long sleeved silk blouses w/ said sleeves cuffed neatly.
you're really rockin the 30 for 30 challenge!

lots of water. you look cool and chic! i heart the lace dress/top ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat combo! I stay indoors to beat the heat...nothing like good ol' AC to keep me cool. =P
ReplyDeleteI like the dress-as-top. I have *got* to try that one day.
ReplyDeleteyou always look so chic. i have that forever 21 lace dress/top as well! love how you wore it tucked into the skirt. i'll have to try it. the length is too short on me to wear as a dress. xx
ReplyDeleteThe lace is so pretty with that skirt!
ReplyDeleteHave I told you how much I love your style! I have this skirt too...now I think I need a lace top ;)
ReplyDeleteI just love every outfit you put on!! I don't think you can ever go wrong with any outfit.
ReplyDeleteHow do I keep cool..well i dont like wearing anything tight for work so usually wearing flowy dresses or blouses
the lace top is so pretty! love how you paired it with florals too <3
ReplyDeletelove it!
ReplyDeletewe had 3 days of heat, now the fog has rolled in. you are more than welcome to take some for yourself. ;)
Silk tops keep me cool in the summer, but my problem is staying warm once inside, where inevitably the A/C is set to freezer temperatures.
ReplyDeletehehe I am sure you can get away with wearing this top/dress everyday for a week. I am eying a lace dress again (I am sooo bad) but think I may be safe from the Zara sale...the smaller sizes at the store I was in are mostly out! phew.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Cee, I LOOOOVE this oufit! Luckily it's not too humid for me yet, but the office is soooo cold :(
ReplyDeleteI love seeing this skirt on you and Tara.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! At first I couldn't believe I kept the skirt (a bit too big), but for once, I'm actually using belts the way they're supposed to, so it all works out :)
ReplyDelete@Bethany - The dress was actually a re-release (I missed it the first time around). Perhaps check your local stores or eBay? Unless you really love the sleeveless version, then go for that :)
@makeupandpearls - Yes please :D Pass them on my way!
@Elle - Not that I need any more lace dresses, but... which one are you eyeing?!
I love the dress as a top. It works really well with the skirt. This is a very visually appealing outfit with just enough going on.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
