Leather Trimmed

by - Friday, September 06, 2013
Today's look is inspired by an outfit from the DSquared2 Resort 2012 campaign. I love the camel/pink/orange combo on the model and wanted to try my hand using pieces from my closet. I do like how my outfit turned out but think there may be too much color on top? DSquared2 got it right by separating out camel and pink into top and bottom pieces.

Have a good weekend!

Pink/Purple

by - Monday, August 26, 2013
Even though I live in a region with four distinct seasons, sometimes I feel like I dress for spring/fall year-round. The perks of an office job, I suppose? Aside from obvious items reserved for specific seasons (ie: fur vest in the winter), everything else is fair game for my daily mixing and matching. Such is the case with today's outfit of ankle length pants made of lightweight wool. Normally worn in the cooler months, I summerized (an actual word according to The Free Dictionary!) the outfit with a short-sleeved tee.

Summer Bright

by - Monday, July 29, 2013
In the past week of blogging, I'm 4-for-5 when it came to wearing stripes. It was completely unplanned, which goes to show how many striped items I actually own. Move over gingham, there's a new obsession in town.

Have a good Monday, everyone!

Pastels & Eyelet

by - Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Up until now, I've worn this eyelet skirt with flats only, and even then, it was mainly flip flops. Today's non-midriff-baring outfit called for something dressier... heels felt like too much, so I settled for low wedges as a compromise.

Living on the Wedge

by - Monday, May 06, 2013
Since upgrading from a point-and-shoot, one of my favorite aspects of photography is the ability to take photos directly into the sun. Shooting at the right angle during certain hours of the day, I feel like I hit the jackpot every time when I manage to capture elusive sun flares or the soft, romantic glow. Then there are times like today's photos where there's just too much sunlight going into the camera and so resulting photos look washed out.

Another Monday, another start to a new work week. Have a good one!

By Malene Birger Callinga Dress

by - Monday, April 29, 2013
I keep a Pinterest board of items that I'd love to add to my closet, but the chances of me doing so are slim to none (late to the game being the #1 reason). Among the ones on my board is this unique embellished tweed shift dress. It was love at first sight the second I saw it on Wendy.

The dress was sold out everywhere I looked, so imagine my elation when limited stock appeared on The Outnet a few months later. I literally squealed out loud, quickly put a hand over my mouth, then looked around to see if any of my co-workers heard. A vain attempt, no less. I knew a trip to the tailor was necessary because the smallest size available didn't look like it would fit based on measurements. I was hoping that the neckline and length will fit ok off the rack and I can just ask for the dress to be slimmed.

En Point

by - Wednesday, April 17, 2013
Today's inspiration source of a gray blazer over plaid shirt is from Zara's most recent winter collection (sorry I seem to have lost the photo). This may be one of the last times I wear flannel shirts until this fall, so you bet I'll be making the most of it, even if I'm sweating just a tad underneath the blazer.

Spring Fever

by - Tuesday, April 09, 2013
Spring's upon us, and with it so are the pollen. Achoo! I'm trying to find a balance between being outside long enough to enjoy the nice weather but knowing my body's limit. So far, 15 minute seem to be the longest I can handle. This is karma coming back to bite me for all those years that I bragged about being immune.

Have a good Tuesday!

Color Crush

by - Tuesday, November 06, 2012
I had planned on leaving home in just this green top with fuchsia pants... until I started feeling a little bit self-conscious. I added an extra navy blazer for its dark neutral color (which helps tone down the overall brightness), and because the blue matches the stripes on the tee. Then did I feel more like myself.

Happy Election Day, voters!

Salmon Colored

Good riddance. It's late October and the weather was in the high 70s today, with the same forecast for tomorrow. I, for one, can not wait to enjoy it.

As Seasons Change

by - Sunday, September 23, 2012
When the weather starts turning cooler, I think about the lives bears lead, and how great it would be if I too, can also go into hibernation and sleep my way through winter. But since I can't, the next best thing about living in a region with four distinct seasons is watching the leaves turn color in the fall. I must remember to come back to this tree-lined spot in a few weeks to capture the pretty autumn colors.

Christmas In September

by - Sunday, September 16, 2012
I know I know, it's a few months too early to even start thinking about the holidays. This is what happens when I'm going through my must-wear-new-items-all-at-once phase. No worries, it'll pass soon.

Black/White

by - Saturday, June 30, 2012
Reader W recently asked how in the world can I stand wearing long sleeves/pants in the hot & humid DC summer. Truth is, I spend most weekdays inside a freezing office. I then walk about 20 steps to and from my car for commuting. So the longest I'm outside in the heat is actually for blog photos, lol. When weekends hit, most days I don't even care to dress nicely. A tshirt and shorts and I'm out the door. Needless to say, those outfits rarely make it to the blog.

Today's outfit is an exception. I rarely wear sleeveless tops, let alone with shorts/skirts. Looking at the photo below, I knew there's a reason why. Pale arms alert! There's something about the proportions that I'm not used to (typically I'm covered up on top with shorter bottoms or vice versa). Let's see if I can wrap my head around this new mindset for the summer.

Stay cool and have a great weekend!

Mixed Feelings

by - Monday, June 25, 2012
Today's outfit is one that looked better in person but even better in my head. Hmm... those feelings sure have been popping up an awful lot lately. Regardless, I'll add this to my collection of attempts at print mixing.

Happy Monday!

Ladylike

by - Wednesday, June 06, 2012
I dug out two pieces, the scarf and the dress, that haven't seen the light of day in much too long. I felt like I should be wearing this outfit in the fall, not the first week of June. Hooray for warmer weather this upcoming weekend!

H&M Bag + BRB

by - Sunday, May 20, 2012
I went to H&M with my 35% off coupon (thanks SPG!) hoping to find a pair of ballet flats. I left home in the outfit below [left] and came back with a new bag instead [right].
blazer: theory (similar) / shirt: J.Crew (sold here) / necklace: H&M (similar) / tank: Old Navy (sold here) / belt: Old Navy (similar) / shorts: Old Navy (sold here) / ring: Forever 21 (similar) / shoes: Via Spiga (sold here) / bag: [left] Longchamp (sold here)

A dome-shaped bag with a long strap has long been on my wishlist ever since seeing photos of Olivia Palermo with her Chloe Gemma. I would've gladly forked over the money for the Chloe but like most things, I was late to the game.

I was happy to see this H&M bag in stores because it fit all the requirements I was looking for: simple design, dome shape, long strap. At the same time, I was hesitant because I'm unsure of the quality holding up over time. The bag retails for $24.95 + 35% off = $16.22, which I figured is a good enough deal for me to try out. The imitation leather is pebbled and on the thin side. The bag is very lightweight. There were some loose threading, so it's best to carefully look over in stores. The color is a pretty taupe-pink, where its true colors are shown in my modeling photos (not the one directly below).
Dimensions: 12" in height; 13" x 7.5" across the bottom; 5.5" drop for double straps; 50" is the max length for long strap.

Though I can wear the bag over the shoulders, it's most comfortable when hand-held or worn crossbody. When loaded with all my stuff, the bottom does sag. I wish there were extra padding on the bottom to avoid sagging, but for the price, that's probably asking for too much.

I'll get to test this bag's durability because I'm bringing it with me to San Francisco/Napa Valley for the next few days. Crossing my fingers that all the hardware and straps will be able to handle all my stuff through multiple layovers and sight-seeing. It'll be my third time in CA and I absolutely can not wait to gorge myself with food, sights, and sounds. Be back soon!
