A neutral outfit doesn't have to be boring. I love mixing in textures (calf hair pumps), prints (when in doubt, leopard), varying metals (see closeup shot of jewelry below), proportions (short trench, longer peplum top), and finally, a subtle pop of color that is bottle green. There are so many details to draw the eye, but yet, the overall effect is quite cohesive.

I suppose my practical nature is the reason I'm a sucker for versatile pieces. Officially named a "neck warmer" (love the term), this piece of cold-weather accessory doubles as an infinity scarf, a shawl, or even a half-blanket when the occasion calls for it. I like how it's not quite symmetrical with a small slit up one side. I'm right-handed, so that's the side I prefer to have more "arm room," but in actuality, I'm wearing it backwards.

Leaves haven't changed colors yet, but the crisp air sure is signaling fall. For today's transitional outfit, I paired fun neutrals with a relaxed, but modern silhouette of peplum top with girlfriend jeans. Can never go wrong with classic and comfortable!

After a week of rain and clouds, this weekend has been full of beautiful weather. It's a welcome change and one I'm definitely taking advantage of. So, putting on my comfiest weekend clothes and I'm off again.

I've really enjoyed seeing others wear off the shoulder tops, but have yet to find one that looks semi-decent on me. The ones I've tried on usually had a combination of issues: elastic neckline was too loose or too tight, fabric didn't drape right across the chest, and/or the sleeves were puffy and unflattering.

Until now. The small floral print was what initially caught my eye. Then my excitement waned somewhat upon noticing the off the shoulder style. But I figured, what the hell, if there is even a small chance of being able to kill two birds with one stone, then it's worth a try.

The elastic neckline ended up being the perfect stretchiness. I actually think the floral print did double duty -- it's gorgeous, and the "busy-ness" actually hides the elastic threading more so than a solid colored top.

After I finished trying on the top as it was advertised (off the shoulder), I realized there are two other ways I could wear this top! Bateau style which I've loved seeing on Meghan Markle (ie: one, two, three) and what ended up being my favorite, one-shoulder. My excitement knows no bounds, so this top will be on the short list for the rest of the summer.

Today's outfit is a hodgepodge of styles. A mix of boho (top), glam (bag), feminine (shoes), and vintage (skirt). I could've passed for someone who got dressed in the dark this morning. Or perhaps seen as a risk taker. Or maybe a bit of both.

I've been reaching for these girlfriend jeans every Friday for the last couple of months or so. That's consistent enough where they can now be called my "Friday uniform."

The "neutral, business casual" theme continues with today's look. Also being carried over from the last post is my love for unique skirts. Awhile back, I pretty much wore the same outfit. I changed up the skirt today, and as a result, received a myriad of comments ranging from, "My daughter would love your skirt!" to "Your skirt looks warm... does it keep you warm?" It's funny how one small change can make such a big difference.

Wearing a head-to-toe new outfit is exciting, but I get even more of a kick out of mixing new items with old gems. Today's look is such an example. I had to stare at myself for a good few minutes in the mirror before realizing how well each item complemented the others. I may or may not have had an extra skip to my step throughout the rest of the day.

I gave myself 10 minutes max to do my hair this morning. If I couldn't figure out how to tie the bandana into a cute headband, I would resort to tying it around my wrist. Thank goodness it took me about three tries to part my hair just right, fluff it out, and knot the bandana. I think the final look turned out even better than I had imagined.

As promised, today's post features a semi tucked-in sweater (now $25) with wide leg cropped pants (now $32). I loved how this outfit turned out, with the yellow pants being the main attraction against a palette of neutrals. It's just a tad crazy for my stuffy work environment (government), but not too much so.

Stripes, oh how I love thee. It's a pattern that suits any occasion -- work, dressy, weekends, just to name a few, and one that I can't get enough of. Oh, periwinkle blue? Don't mind if I add that to my growing collection.
