Three Times the Fun
Friday, February 03, 2012Oops, I did it again. What is it about gingham that I just can't resist?! That's a rhetorical question I'll save for a rainy day. Joining purple and pink, the newest addition is navy colored in larger squares. I picked it up when Vicky (many thanks!) blogged about an abercrombie kids' sale last week.
A quick comparison between the three gingham shirts that I own:
(1) abercrombie kids Samantha in navy/white plaid, size XL (sold here) - chest: 15" lying flat; sleeves: 23" long; length: 23"
(2) crewcuts Boys' popsicle gingham in shore purple, size 14 (tailored to slim the sides) - chest: 16" lying flat; sleeves: 22.5" long; length: 26"
(3) Hollister Clobberstones in pink check, size S - chest: 16.5" lying flat; sleeves: 25.5" long; length: 23.75"
Hollister's fabric has the most casual feel, almost flannel-like. abercrombie and crewcuts are both made of stiffer fabric with a dressier feel. I've tried on various kids' clothing over the years and this abercrombie shirt has the slimmest cut I've ever encountered. Wide and boxy stereotypes sure isn't true in this case. I'd recommend it for anyone my size or smaller. I bought the shirt for $19.80, but was able to get a price adjustment down to $9.90, thanks to the most patient and nicest SA.
shirts: Abercrombie & Fitch 3/4-sleeve tunic (similar);
abercrombie Samantha (sold here)
blazer: H&M draped (similar)
bracelets: Forever 21 rope/cable bangle (the real deal; similar);
Forever 21 rhinestone snake chain (similar)
Forever 21 rhinestone snake chain (similar)
ring: Forever 21 faceted faux gemstone (sold here)
pants: Express Editor luxury stretch (this season's sold here)
shoes: Ann Taylor perfect patent (sold here)

LOL Cee, when something works stick with it and Gingham definitely suits you ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm DYING for a good gingham shirt under $100, but my top half won't allow me to shop in the children's depts. Any suggestions on where I could snag one?
ReplyDeleteJ.Crew for sure! What color, size squares, type of fabric, etc. are you looking for?
DeleteFor smaller squres, I think these have a dressier/formal type of fabric: one, two, three.
Gap has one with a subtle pattern. Also, H&M had gingham shirts not too long ago (can't find it on their site anymore, but may still be in stores) in pink, green, and blue with a casual fabric.
Good luck with your search!
WAH, two gingham shirts together? That's so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI bought the same shirt in the same size and love it! Really it's now half price? Did you get price adjustment in store or by phone?
Also, did the sweatpants work out for you? The 4 sweatpants for $15 each I bought for the kids were a super hit. They look so nice and great quality. :)
The pink shirt underneath is a solid color. Next time though, I'll try the gingham on gingham ;)
DeleteI went to the store for the price adjustment. Definitely give it a shot tonight/tomorrow if you can (deal ends tomorrow). Since the shirt is a flagship exclusive (NYC only, right?) my store didn't have it in stock and the SA needed to know the sale price in order to make adjustments. Luckily she let me use her smartphone to google the shirt with the price. So have that ready if you can and they should be able to do a price adjustment for you.
The skinny sweatpants felt too tight on me so I returned that. But the banded one I really liked, so that's a keeper for me. My bf calls them my "Obama sweatpants" b/c that's what he wears to play basketball, lol. I'm so glad to hear Jasmine and Tristan liked their pants too. Thank you again for sharing the deal!
Thank you, Cee. I will def give it a try. I swear I saw this shirt in store though (so i'm confused on the flagship exclusive description). When I tried it on in store, they only had size L and it was too small on me, so I was glad to see a size XL online.
DeleteGlad to hear that the "Obama sweatpants" worked out for you. :)
Ahh! Vicky, I just realized I'm wrong. The online price already reflects the 50% off. Perhaps if you try in stores the SA will be nice and do a price adjustment anyway... but it may not happen. I was told by the SA that clearance items end in "$0.80" so that's why she made the adjustment for me. I tried to do it with the sweatpants and she wouldn't. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
DeleteI really like the navy/white one. And yay for the draped blazer- looks great on you Cee!
ReplyDeleteIf you sign up for their e-mail list, you should get a code within seconds with a free shipping code! (This was the case last week when I tried.)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this!
DeleteIs there a code for the 50% off? The shirt is coming up at $19.80 in my cart. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteShy, I'm so sorry to say that I'm wrong :( The fine print says the price online already reflects the discount. Perhaps you can give your store a try? Vicky (above) said she saw it at her store and I remember the SA saying clearance prices end in "0.80" and that's why she adjusted the price for me. I tried getting a price adjustment that was under the clearance section but ended in "0.00" and she wouldn't do that.
Deletelove 'em all, how i don't have a similar shirt in my closet is beyond me!

ReplyDeleteThat is one killer gingham collection! Loving the brighter hues. And those prices are amazing! I think after reading your blog I've really changed my mind about button downs, I used to hate them and the way they looked on me, but now I wear them with everything.
ReplyDeleteBack in high school/college, I thought the only way to dress "professionally" was to wear a button down. Oh my gosh, you should see the ones I still have in my closet from those days. Ill-fitting, random prints, etc. Blech! I like the ones I have now much more :)
DeleteI love how you style gingham, so I'm all for more gingham for you! Green one next? haha! Man, now I'm really tempted to get that navy one!
ReplyDelete........look what you've done! Now the seed's been planted, hahaha.
DeleteI have to admit that you have made me a convert Cee! Only last year I was telling my husband that I would not be wearing gingham and now I have two hanging in my closet! Never say "never" I guess ;) Lol
ReplyDeleteYay to enabling? lol. I've given up on "never say never" because I've broken that rule one too many times myself :)
DeleteI totally love it! I've always been partial to gingham!
ReplyDeleteI have a giveaway on my blog.. check it out if interested!

I am obsessed with gingham too these days... I love the colors you have. I tend to buy boy's gingham... it just seems more appealing with all the different colors! Definitely going to look into that sale... :)

You know, I don't know that I've seen many girls' gingham. My crewcuts purple gingham was labeled boys but I saw it in both the girls and boys section. But I do agree that boys do have a great gingham color selection!
DeleteOoh, loving the larger check pattern of your new acquisition! Thanks for providing the measurements - very helpful to see sizing between brands. I finished Baby E's gingham dress but in true Asian fashion made it large so she can grow into it :) I desperately want a family photo of us all cheesily wearing gingham and I have you to thank for introducing me to it :D
ReplyDeleteDarn it SPG! I saw the cutest Hello Kitty (I think?) keychain in Asia where she was wearing a gingham dress. I couldn't find a use for it myself, but now I'm kicking myself for not picking it up for you+Baby E! Please do consider sharing your gingham family photo once baby E grows into her dress :)
DeleteGingham looks great on you. I can see why you have several. I like the idea of styling two button up shirts. Does it get uncomfortable wearing two shirts?
ReplyDeleteOnly when one shirt's sleeve is shorter than the other, lol. But once I tug everything into place, there isn't bunching to worry about. I'm used to wearing a tank with my button-up shirts, so another shirt feels ok to me.
DeleteGingham is a good look! I like how you paired the blouse with the gray pants. Gives it a sleek look.

I actually do not own any gingham shirt at all!!! I see them everywhere on blog sphere though, I saw some at HM for about $20 which is not bad.
ReplyDeleteI also have a soft spot if my heart for gingham. It's SO classic. I also loft all sorts of plaids!
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm Sam and would like to ask you what size did you order for the gingham shirts? I am petite but 34C bra size? thanks and more power to your blog.
ReplyDeleteHey Sam, this is what I think based on my experience (I'm a 32A for reference). I think the abercrombie kids' gingham shirts will be too small for you, even at the largest size XL. Crewcuts sz 12 or 14 should work for you (I slimmed my sz 14). I want to say Hollister S should work for you too, but may have to size up to M. Hope that helps!
DeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
