Black/White
Saturday, June 30, 2012Reader W recently asked how in the world can I stand wearing long sleeves/pants in the hot & humid DC summer. Truth is, I spend most weekdays inside a freezing office. I then walk about 20 steps to and from my car for commuting. So the longest I'm outside in the heat is actually for blog photos, lol. When weekends hit, most days I don't even care to dress nicely. A tshirt and shorts and I'm out the door. Needless to say, those outfits rarely make it to the blog.
Today's outfit is an exception. I rarely wear sleeveless tops, let alone with shorts/skirts. Looking at the photo below, I knew there's a reason why. Pale arms alert! There's something about the proportions that I'm not used to (typically I'm covered up on top with shorter bottoms or vice versa). Let's see if I can wrap my head around this new mindset for the summer.
Stay cool and have a great weekend!
vest: Forever 21 sleeveless blazer (similar)
top: Ann Taylor asymmetrical drape (similar)
bracelets: Forever 21 rhinestone snake chain (similar);

That's the difference between you and me! LOL. I take the Metro in to work, and there is no way I would survive the way you dress for the office with all those sleeves and stuff. I do like this outfit though. I've been thinking about a looser fitting vest like this, but I've been trying really hard to buy items that fill gaps in my closet, rather just add to it just because I feel like it.
ReplyDeleteHAHA you'll always be a Canadian through and through ;) Are you back in the area? If so, I hope you stayed cool today, Cher. I was one of the unlucky ones who lost power, but still not the most unlucky. Some friends are still without power even now =/
DeleteHmm... your dilemma is one I often face too. I think I justify those buying-because-I-feel-like-it-purchases with cheaper items so I can "try it out." Of course, then I have to keep those urges in check because those items can add up!
I would do the same exact thing if I were in a cold office all day. I do the opposite in the winter when the heat is cranked up. I love the nude heels with the shorts. I feel like so many people don't realize how great shorts paired with heels can be!

I'm still new to shorts with heels, and I'm still at the stage where the heels can't be too tall, or else it feels odd. I suppose that's another thing I'll have to work on this summer :)
DeleteI love your simple yet statement outfit! Black + white + neutral pumps is just what I want to wear right now.
ReplyDeleteCan't really comment on dressing for the hot weather though - coming from the UK, where it is supposed to be summer and I am wrapped in a jumper..hmm.
You pretty much described my commute too, and that's why I didn't own any flats for the longest time. lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite outfits Cee. You look so tall. :)
Cee, I think this looks amazing! Also one of my favorites on you :) I'm quite bundled up for work. I swear, its colder there now than in the winter.
ReplyDeleteLove the black and white! Very pretty! ;)
ReplyDeleteThis outfit's gorgeous - I especially love the delicate pearls you threw on. And I am in search of wedges like your VS Missy, followed the link to Last Call only to find a sold-out page. tears.
ReplyDeleteOh no :( I could've sworn there were still a few sizes left to the VS Missy when I wrote up this post :( I've seen sizes pop back up from returns, so keep checking Last Call. I'll also keep my eyes out for you!
DeleteI really love this outfit, it's so simple and chic. You can't go wrong with black and white ensemble. Great shoes too!

I like the look. The nude shoe is perfect. I can't seem to resist a pop of color (mostly in the shoe area), so I definitely appreciate when someone else can rock a neutral palette so effortlessly.
ReplyDeleteThis whole look just flows so well!
