30 for 30: Result of restlessness
Monday, February 28, 2011I used to dabble in freelance graphic and web design, until life became too hectic about a year ago. When things slowly got back to normal, I felt myself becoming more and more restless. I didn't realize at the time, but the hours I spent Photoshopping and coding was the outlet for my creative energy. That's one of the reasons I started blogging, so I have layouts to play with, without the demands of a timeline and customer requirements. Everything is on my watch and how I like it. I guess you could say I felt this restlessness again this past weekend, so here is another layout, in only less than two months :) How do you channel your creative energy?
necklace: Cara Accessories
cardigan: Old Navy
shirt: crewcuts (this season's version sold here)
belt: Forever 21
jeans: LOFT
boots: Old Navy (currently sold here)

I love the new layout, it's so sleek! I find my creative outlet through blogging and painting/drawing. Though I haven't been doing the latter as much lately. It's so messy and I hate cleaning up after my little art sessions. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI channel my energy into art. I love (well used to) paint and sketch and mess around with eyeshadows and lip colors. No wonder people paid you to do graphic designing and web design! Love the new layout. =0D
ReplyDeleteI tried so hard to "casually" tuck in my shirt like that but I just can't seem to make it work. Maybe the trick is that I need a more flowy yet fitted top?
OH PS- and if you ever tired with web design you can totally tinker around with mine. <3
Your blog looks so "professional blogger" now! I've been staring at your gingham shirt for the longest time and when I visited ON this weekend, I bought a cute plaid shirt from the boys' department. I'm using your gingham posts for styling inspirations :)
ReplyDeleteAs for channeling energy, I typically put it into sewing or jewelry making. Sometimes I just run around with my toddler :)
I love the green in the new layout. So eye-catching and fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of loving the boots today. I'm only two out from the end of the 30x30, maybe I'll just cave a bit early, and pick up a pair for myself :)
I'd definitely say I have to channel my creative energy into writing. More so with what I write on my family blog than what I write on my personal blog (or style blog, I guess, but it always seems so presumptuous to call myself a style blogger, since I'm not sure style is what I actually have :)), but having a place where I can go every day to share my thoughts is amazing.
This Life, Redefined…stop by and say hi!
Oh those boots those boots! Love the new layout and blog too! Such a useful creative talent you've got. I tend to channel my energy into all sorts of things - always a new hobby in the works. I'm really enjoying blogging right now. But before that, I had taken up knitting and crocheting. It's really soothing, but it requires more focus than I have right now.

tee-hee, I channel my creative energy by visiting other blogs, including yours truly ;-)
ReplyDeleteJames Franco - omg. swooooooooooooooooooon. lol, can't believe your bf thinks he's a pervo. it's just his sexy James Dean eyes...he just can't help himself that he's oozing so much sexiness.
I'm still trying to figure my way around html and photoshop lol.
ReplyDeleteI do like your outfit. The necklace adds a cute feminine touch to the plaid shirt. :)
can you make me a new layout? I like to sew. I'm not good at it, but like anything, it's a learning process.
ReplyDeleteOoh I love the green layout! :) I love coding and photoshopping as well, and since I didn't want to keep playing around with my own blog design, I started doing it for money and it's been a great creative outlet :) Freelance graphic and web design? That sounds like a ton of fun. What's your job now?
ReplyDeleteand I love this crewcuts shirt everytime you wear it :)
Wow this layout is so cool :) Hmmm I think previously my creative energy went into playing with makeup. I still do that everyonce in a while, but lately it's been into blogging for the 2 (3!) sites I'm writing for now and running my business too. I would love to be able to tweak my blog design but I have been so crazy busy and have no skills it would take me FOREVER to figure out!
ReplyDeleteCute shirt..I'm rockin the gingham today too...its just one of those days!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this look. So much that I want to go in search of a similar shirt :) Now that's flattery!
ReplyDeleteMoms Have Style, Too!

Idk why but on my computer, everyone's picture next to their comment is scrunched up.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is a stunner! Very cute look you put together!

I would definitely say that's why I started a blog so I can just get sucked into something at the end of my day! Cute outfit too :)

I love the new layout and your outfit looks so cozy.
ReplyDeletefor me the best way to chanalize my creativity is to customize old/vintage clothes that are sitting there in the bottom of my closet i'm obssessed with headbandslately but unfortunately i don't have much time :)

Thank you everyone for sharing your creative outlets. There are so many talented ladies here! It's so nice to get to know you better outside the world of blogging :)
ReplyDelete@Banhannas, @JenlovesBal, @I am Khatu - Do let me know if you guys need any help and I'll see what I can do :) I cheated and found a template I liked from here, then customized to fit my needs, instead of starting from scratch.
@SewPetiteGal - Oooh, I've tried crewcuts but haven't ventured into ON's boys dept. Will keep that in mind!
@Lisa - I told him there's no need to be jealous. Afterall, he was a huge fan of the Spiderman movie. But is he listening? Probably not, haha.
@kimmie - Since graduating, I've been working as a software engineer. The graphic/web design was more of a side job/hobby that uses a lot more creativity. I do miss it! And did I ever mention how much I like your site designs? So fresh and clean.
@AubreyOhDang! - YIKES! It looked fine on my Mac and Windows, but both through Firefox. IE is a whole 'nother story. Thank you for letting me know!
I followed the necklace link to find out that it is sold out, argh! It is such a gorgeous piece and what a fun way to add some bling to any outfit!
ReplyDeleteI recently tried the mini supernova necklace at Crew and what a tiny disappointment! I think I need to go big!
There is that J Crew (crewcuts) lavender buffalo check shirt I love so much. looks adorable on you! I very much enjoy being a new follower, such style you have.
ReplyDeleteHey, I was wondering, what size is your crewcuts shirt? It looks great on you!
ReplyDelete@Simply Bubblelicious - Thanks! Definitely one of my favorite items of this challenge.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous - Thanks. My crewcuts shirt is a size 14. Size 12 was sold out at the time, but I'm pretty sure that would have been a better fit. I also took my shirt to the tailors and had it slimmed. Hope you find what you're looking for!
Pretty shirt !
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
