30 for 30: Inspirations
Wednesday, February 23, 2011I fell in love with this J.Crew mannequin's outfit the minute I saw it. It's (he? she?) actually wearing a skirt, but I felt my shimmy dress was perfect for this recreation. Same romantic-type tiered ruffles *dreamy sigh* I didn't feel like wearing a scarf (yes it happens), so I swapped it out for a necklace instead.
As for the photo below, I have no freaking clue what I'm doing -- perhaps practicing my non-existent dancing skills a la Carlton?!
blazer: theory
shirt: American Eagle
dress: J.Crew
necklace: H&M
belt: Express
tights: Forever 21
bag: Balenciaga
flats: Mossimo

LOVE the outfit. I prefer the necklace over the scarf actually. It pulls it together much better I think. So well coordinated colours too! :D I can't pick my favourite piece, I love the whole thing together as it is!
ReplyDeleteOh and I've followed you back :) Stay in touch and will be popping by again!
ReplyDeleteI just watched the Carlton clip and died laughing. I forgot how funny his dancing was. You look like you're well on your way to some sweet dance moves inspired by Carlton, haha. Great outfit! The ruffles are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHi Cee,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog.
I like the way to combined the blue, black & white tones in this outfit. Im so in love with your Balenciaga too. Grey is definitely a super neutral colour!
Following you. Hope you will visit again!

Nice! I should take pics of mannequins more. I always feel awk taking pics in a store though. I feel i'm not allowed or smthg. who knows.
ReplyDeleteLove it Cee! What a great job of recreating a mannequin. I take pictures like that in stores all the time....I get some weird looks sometimes, but who really cares ;)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant outfit inspiration! That's the kind of thing I would walk right by (because I am the least observant person on the planet), but I'm so glad you noticed and recreated this outfit. I need to start paying attention to store mannequins from now on.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I wish I was better at seeing an outfit that I wanted and recreating it from my own closet. I have such a mental block on that, for some reason.
ReplyDeleteAlso, isn't it weird that you know the picture is coming, and yet, you end up so unprepared? I am NEVER in a normal position for the first couple of shots :)
This Life, Redefined…stop by and say hi!
hahah so cute.. love this outfit... so hamptons chic!
ReplyDeleteLOL the mannequin's scarf looks pretty scary tied like that, so headless horseman looking. Cute rendition of the outfit and I'm a huge lover of JCrew's styling as well!
ReplyDeleteHAHA I love your Carlton reference! Kids nowadays don't know what I mean by that ...sheesh.
I can't believe how perfectly you recreated this look. Good on ya!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you didn't feel like wearing scarf lol. Love your outfit especially that white dress, so cute.
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!! Cee, I keep saying this but this is my favorite OOTD of my many other favorites :) It's just absolute perfection.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying for a white dress for awhile and your outfit makes me want to jump the gun and buy one already! This outfit is so chic.

ReplyDeleteLove how you did an outfit based on the mannequin! I like ur version better..LOL
ReplyDeleteLol! It totally looks like it could a freeze frame of Carlton's "It's Not Unusual" dance!!

@Sharon @ Fun and Life, @Squeeze the Pug, @lisa, @Emily, @Nelah, @SewPetiteGal, @Natalie Suarez, @kimmie, @H Rija, @Simply Bubblelicious, @Really Petite - Thank you girls for the kind words :)
ReplyDelete@Betherboo, @Banhannas - Yes! So glad you enjoyed the Carlton reference. Perhaps a bit dorky? But I found it hilarious, haha.
@AubreyOhDang!, @Kristen - I wish I could say I took the photo. Alas, I found it online. Too chicken to around SAs and their eagle eyes.
@Callandra - Ooh, I need to work up the courage to take pics in stores. I'm always afraid they're going to confiscate my camera, haha.
@Tara - I should really start counting the beeps on my camera's timer. Been caught in way too many awkward moments to count!
@Jenn, @Jarucha - Definitely go for it! White dress looks so nice against a tan in warm weather.
I think you did a great job with your outfit! It looks almost exactly alike the j crew one.
ReplyDeleteReally chic! :)
I love your re-creation much more than the he/she mannequin!
ReplyDeleteLove the blue in your blue shirt!
besos,
ML

That dress of yours is so versatile. Tee-hee, I adore that last shot. I had to dance to the carlton to a school play when I was a kid and it was a HOOT. Actually, you look like you're laying on your womanly charms and telling the photographer to come to momma! lol, just kidding. :)
ReplyDelete@Michelle - Haha I know! Glad someone else can spot the Carlton similarities too :D
ReplyDelete@JenlovesBal, @20 York Street - Thank you both!
@Lisa - I bet you as mini-Carlton was a HIT! Do you have it on video that you're willing to share? :)
I'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
