Boots and a Dress
Monday, May 23, 2011My usual choice of camera* placement is on the trunk of my car or on a ledge on my building's rooftop. Either would give me a background photo of a parking lot. I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little tired of the same old :) So... the hunt for a cheap tripod begins. The cheaper the better, but still sturdy enough that a gust of wind won't knock it over. Perhaps this, this, or this one? Do you have a tripod to recommend?
*I also toyed with the idea of potentially upgrading to a nice DSLR camera, but I don't know if I have the time right now to learn enough of the controls to get my ROI back... perhaps further down the road.

I hear ya Cee...I get tired of my same background too:)
ReplyDeleteAnd I would you should def get a DSLR...I love my T2i and it was worth every penny. I paid a grip for my tripod because I didn't want to chance anything with my nice camera. But learning the settings is a pain and I have yet to figure it out:D
Love the boots w/this outfit!
i swear you always have the prettiest dresses cee!! i love this dress with the brown boots.. you look like you should be frolicking in a field somewhere in a anthro ad hehehe!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a DSLR or a tripod so I can't be of any help :( Sorry!
I think my tripod is really similar to all three of them, it's around the same size and price. I think any of those three look good to me!
ReplyDeleteHaving a tripod opens up so many possibilities when it comes to picture-taking ;) But I think for your purpose, your photos look fine and I don't see the need to upgrade to a dSLR unless you really want one. Although having a remote would be really nice sometimes!
I vote for the third one from Amazon so you can attach some makeshift sandbag or other type of weight to the hook at the bottom if you're really worried about a gust knocking it over. The other ones didn't seem to have that feature.
ReplyDeleteI admit, I've owned a DSLR for a few yrs now and have yet to fully learn all the features but getting to a "useable" phase only takes one fund day of tinkering. :) If and when you do decide to buy, I would recommend the Canon T3i and a 50 mm f/1.8 lens. The T3i's screen swivels out like a camcorder so great for self shots or even videos!
Nice outfit!! I saw your bag in-store this weekend, I love it! I might have to reconsider getting the pliage...
ReplyDeleteUpgrade to the DSLR! I've been practicing with my friend's so far...its not rocket science but I'm not using it to the full potential yet. But you'll learn it as you go? I guess you could wait if you don't need it for anything else? I'm tired of blurry photos of my dog and dance performances, plus I'm traveling this summer so I definitely want better pictures!

I have no knowledge about cameras...but I see some great pics done from DSLRs so why not go for it if you want to get high quality pics? I swear, you take on a diff style everyday you dress up, from prep to this boho chic look! So versatile! This look evokes images of you walking in a prairie! :P
ReplyDeleteCute boho look, this outfit got me thinking of you in a flowers field somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI had a tripod but I don't like to use it somehow.
I love the easy-breezy feel of this outfit. I bought a tripod from Target (one of the cheaper Targus ones) and it works great for me. But I wouldn't trust it with a DSLR. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this look. It's pretty different from your preppy ones, but it has your signature style all over it!
ReplyDeleteA tripod helps a ton, but a DSLR isn't necessary. It's not always about equipment but the eye behind the lens. I know I would probably still be taking photos with a P&S if the SLR I have now wasn't "donated" to me. LOL.
this look is amazing and the dress/boots combo is definitely something you see A LOT here in texas! i love the jean jacket on top too!
ReplyDeletecute & little
come check out the color brigade!
lovely outfit, the dress is so pretty x
ReplyDeleteBaby your blog is so cool!
ReplyDeleteCome to me :)
The yellow ball
You look adorable. As for tripods, I'm gonna have to check w. the hubs and get back to you on that. it's his 'thing'
ReplyDeleteI love that you can pull of boots + dresses (last time I tried I looked like a hobo who found those two items on separate occasions).
ReplyDeleteAnd I am not a tripod expert so I don't know what to recommend...I think a cheapo remote would be good too (I spent $35? on a nikon one and bought two back ups on ebay for $5 shipped...they work exactly the same. sort of. the ebay ones sometimes don't cooperate but not too bad considering the price tag)
yes! i am too looking for a tripod for my DSLR but dont want to spend an arm or leg on it either. I like the one at amazon! good reviews. let me know how which one you do get
ReplyDeleteI love my new camera, maybe you can just get an older version since the price is a lot cheaper? and then upgrade later?
good luck!
I think the camera you have does a great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your tips and recommendations :) I remember a week or two ago, there was a deal on a Canon T3i on spoofee, which was what got me thinking about potentially upgrading to a nicer camera. This "deal" was still a hefty chunk of money, and once I started researching I was completely overwhelmed. So it was extremely helpful reading what each of you use, your likes/dislikes, and your recs. I'll definitely be referring back to this if/when I upgrade :) For the time being, I should work on taking better photographs in general with my point-and-shoot... b/c what use is a nice camera if I can't even frame or take clear pictures?!
ReplyDelete@R.L. - I didn't even notice the hook at the bottom of the Amazon tripod! Thank you for pointing that out! I may try to see if there are any similar ones in stores first because now all of a sudden bf wants to take a mini trip soon... so I think a tripod would come in handy. Otherwise, I'm all about ordering online.
@kimmie, @Elle - A remote didn't even cross my mind, lol. I've gotten pretty good at using the camera's timer, so I think I'll continue with that for now. But if I ever upgrade, I think a remote is a must-have!
You look so great Cee! I'm tired of my same background too but I'm not brave enough to venture out of the safety of my home LOL! I'm a self timer girl too.
ReplyDeletei think google ate my previous comment. argh. anyhoo, i wanted to say that your boots and denim jacket are very western! howdy pardner! :)
ReplyDeletekimchi girl
p.s. the gorilla is a great tripod!
I love how the entire outfit is composed :) The boots and the denim jacket are great additions! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love your boots! Such a nice colour with the floral dress!
ReplyDeleteVery chic...
Girl about Town XxX
I love all of your layers, you look so adorable! I purchased the tripod for my camera off of amazon, I think I paid $30 for it and it works like a charm with my SLR. I also bought the remote off amazon as well :) If you need more help, just let me know!

I love the floral + denim + boots!! It's so Americana chic!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that you get such pretty pictures just from setting your camera up on your car trunk! I use a Neewer 62" tripod that is super-lightweight (but I haven't had problems with it getting knocked over by wind) and cheap:

hey Cee! this could definitely pass as the hobo look for that contest some of you ladies were discussing on twitter ;) i don't know, i just think boots + dress/skirt + scarf = almost hobo lol. just throw on some of that amrita bling bling and you are my winner! :)
ReplyDeleteI love those boots! <3
ReplyDeleteLove the boots and the dress! Lovely for spring :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog! I swear I felt like I was reading a post I would have written... I have the same issue as far as trying to take the photos myself without a tripod. I've done the balancing act as well... on rocks, curbs, bumper of my car and it's time I invest. B&H Photo.com is amazing for anything camera/photo related. Good luck! And I'm now following!

Such a gorgeous dress...and that color of purple is one of my favorite colors, ever. Pretty sure that's the same scarf I sent Kimmie over here to look at when she was redesigning my blog for me :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! That dress is so pretty! :) I always love how your outfits look so effortlessly put together, even if there are several layers involved.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the third tripod (Vista) because I happen to own it and think it's amazing! It even holds my DSLR, so it should definitely work for a smaller camera, or whenever you decide to upgrade!
I love this dress! I bought a cheaper tripod from bestbuy. I think it was $20.00. I don't have the brand name at the moment, but it came with a carry case too. I love it.
