Petite Fashion Challenge #4: Holiday Party

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Hosted by Curls And Pearls, Petite Fashion Challenge #4: Holiday Party has us creating a holiday party look using festive colors without looking like a greeting card.

When I think of the holidays, I picture dressing in jewel-tones. Sparkling greens, vibrant reds, shiny metallics come to mind. I picked out accessories from these colors and created an outfit that would be appropriate for my company's holiday party.

The dress is an old one I dug out and I think the shiny material fits the holiday mood, even if it's a darker color. As for the shoes, the only metallic pair I own are strappy sandals, so they'll have to do even though we are in the middle of winter :) How would you accessorize this dress? Should I have added some sparkly bracelets? My arms do seem sort of bare.

  1. ok, this dress looks way too good on you and I can't believe you don't take it out for a spin from time to time. It's so fun and light! I love the pop of color the scarf adds and the shoes are perfect for the occasion. Great job!

  2. Tres elegant! That bcbg seems to fit pretty nicely in the torso. Is it bcbg regular or petites? I remember I have a 0P bcbg dress which fits quite small.

I think your bare arms are okay with that lovely red wrap! Though sparkly bracelets and cocktail rings don't hurt...I got mine at Banana Republic with their 40% off coupons : )

  3. I love the drapiness (spl?) of this dress! And the pop of red from the scarf is perfect. I think a really blingy bracelet would definitely work!

  4. Love the pop of red with this dress and of course the necklace too! I don't know if you have occasions for this but you should wear strapless more often. You have the perfect collarbone and shoulders for it!

  6. Love the flowiness of the dress - I wore something similar to one of my work parties last year and got many compliments :) If only I'd had that necklace!

  9. Oh this dress is beautiful and you did a wonderful job pairing it with the necklace and shoes. I think a blingy bracelet would totally work for this outfit but your clutch is a great accessory too!

  11. Great wrap and great accessories, I love the shoes! I need to find my own pair of metallic shoes since all I have are kind of...boring? A chunky cocktail ring would be a great addition to your outfit! =)

  13. the necklace is quite the statement - i love big accessories! something shiny on your wrist would be a nice addition, but not necessary. you look great!

  14. that dress is gorgeous! Is is brown or black? It looks chocolate brown on my screen...whatever color it is, it is just stunning on you! I've also been trying to find some dainty strappy heels like that too, since it looks like it would go with many dresses. I don't think you need a bracelet, I'm thinking more like a big cocktail ring as Stylpint suggest :)

  15. I think the necklace paired with the strapless neckline on the dress is a great combination. If I were to add bracelets, maybe something simply to not have to compete with the powerful necklace.

I am so envious of you girls who can wear strapless gowns. I have never tried for fear of an inability to keep it up. I love the hemline of this, and I love the red wrap. This could be a red carpet look, it is so stunning.

  20. Elle - Haha, I would wear the dress more often if I can find occasions to wear it.

PetiteAsianGirl - I'm pretty sure it's 0 regular. Normally I wear it with the sash tied around the neck like a halter because otherwise I have trouble keeping the dress up lol. I'll be on the lookout for 0P in the future.

curls-and-pearls - Thanks! The drapiness (it's a word in my book!) is what drew me to it in the first place :)

SewPetiteGal - It's funny you should say that because I have a hard time keeping strapless dresses up. Darn my lack of boobs!

The Little Dust Princess, Vicky, N, Alterations Needed, Stylepint, kileen, Em, Kiki, fashionforteens, Sisters Sincere, Really Petite - Thank you girls! I'll definitely keep my eye out for blingy bracelets and big cocktail rings :)

Erin - Hopefully the necklace will go on sale sometime :)

PetiteLittleGirl - I think with these heels I'm around 5'8" so I did feel super tall!

olyvia - The dress is dark brown (sorry for the bad photos!). The heels I have on are fairly reasonable in price and pretty comfortable for 3"+, so I would recommend it.

littlenashua - I have trouble with strapless dresses staying up too! I use double-sided fashion tape and they seem to work decently well. Of course, I have to glance down every once in awhile to see if I'm still decent lol.

  23. You look ready for a nice party! The dress definitely highlights how tall and thin you are, and the wrap is the perfect holiday color. I love all your accessories too, been looking for a pair of strappy heels like that.

  24. Wow! What a gorgeous dress! I love your necklace, so I think if you do go for bracelets, keep it silver, but simple. Something more dainty.

Great idea to use the scarf for your cover-up!
