Haul: LOFT pants + scarf

Saturday, October 30, 2010

I'm jumping on the LOFT order bandwagon =) Instead of buying from the sale rack like many bloggers, I went ahead and used the 30% off (still going on!) on regular-priced items and bought a bunch of pants.

The first pair is LOFT's Black Modern Skinny Pants in black, size 24 (00). The model looks so wonderfully skinny and tall in them, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I do like how it practically molds to me, the material is quite stretchy and comfy. Since it fell under their denim category (even though it doesn't feel like regular denim?), I'm thinking it'll probably stretch out over time? Or do you guys think I should go a size up? Since it's the regular size, the length is a bit long on me, but I don't mind tucking the hem under (as shown in the side view). Retails for $69.50, but with 30% off = $48.65. If I keep/exchange this pair though, the H&M black pants will have to go back. Decisions, decisions!

I also got the LOFT Modern Skinny Leg Jeans in poinsettia wash, size 24 P (00 P). Wow, these were too tight on me, especially compared to the fit on the model. The petite length is perfect, but I'd probably have to go up 1-2 sizes to be comfortable. If you like your jeans tight, or if you're smaller than me, this pair would be a good bet. I'm still surprised that these jeans fit almost perfectly! Yay to no longer needing to shop at kiddie stores (yes, I'm talking about you Hollister) for jeans, haha! Retails for $59.50, but with 30% off = $41.65.

The last pair is the LOFT Modern Slim Leg Jeans in sage wash, size 24 (00). The fit is more comfortable than the previous pair, possibly because this one isn't a petite size. I really like the light distressing in certain parts of the pants. The length is always an issue when I wear regular sized clothing, but it's nothing tucking in the hem won't solve. I'm thinking of keeping this pair, but wondering how the 24 P (too tight?) or 25 P (just perfect?) would fit. Retails for $69.50, with 30% off = $48.65.

Because I have a weakness for scarves -_- (and accessories in general), I also got the LOFT Lurex Plaid Scarf in lunar grey. It looked gorgeous online, but in person, I felt it was too shiny and not colorful enough. The herbal brown color was sold out when I placed my order, but I'm thinking of exchanging for it if I can find it in stores. Retails for $34.50, with 30% off = $24.15.

Petite Fashion Challenge #3: The look for less

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Hosted by PetiteLittleGirl, Petite Fashion Challenge #3: The look for less has us recreating a look for less of our favorite style icon. Everyone knows I love Olivia Palermo, but her style isn't really me, it's what I want to be. She's so put-together all the time whereas I'm more... simple and laid-back. Therefore, I chose Lauren Conrad of The Hills (sorry Olivia for cheating on you!)

After scouring the Internet for pics that I could possibly use, I came across one of Lauren wearing Christian Louboutin pumps and possibly J Brand jeans while carrying a Chanel bag. The items I dug out for my outfit are considerably less in cost, but I really wish I had round-toe pumps! The witchy ones I have on are better suited for Halloween haha. (Note to self: keep an eye out for black patent round-toe pumps)

Gap classic pencil skirt

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

I ordered this Gap Classic pencil skirt in true black, size 00P awhile back and finally received it the other day after having been on back order for weeks. This one is much smaller than the 00 (reviewed here). I really like the fit and the material (seems to be the same as their black magic pants). I've gained weight in my stomach area recently -_- so it's a tad tight, but that will be the motivation I need to lose it! Currently sold online here. (Sorry for the messy background!)

Haul: Gap, H&M and J.Crew

Sunday, October 24, 2010

I bought these Gap True straight pants in true black, size 00 regular at their 40% off sale a couple of weeks ago after seeing similar ones on a fashion deliberation. I really wanted to try the 00P size, but they had none in the store. The regular is definitely too long on me unless I stand on tippy toes (first pic). The fit looks ok from the front, but from the back and side, it looks baggy. I've also read reviews that said these pants stretch out after a few hours and collects lint rather easily. Since I wouldn't be able to exchange for the petite size, these pants were returned =/ Still sold online though.

So my quest for skinny black pants continues. I saw these H&M black trousers, US size 2 and thought they fit way better than the Gap ones. The material is thinner but stretchier, which has its pros and cons. In the fitting room, I marveled at how comfortable they were, so I immediately went to check out. Upon coming home though and taking these pictures, I'm not so sure. The creases in the front (bottom left)... is that a sign that it's too tight? From the side view (bottom right), my butt looks huge compared to the Gap ones! The length is probably an inch too long, but I can live with that and just tuck the hem under. I thought these were pricey for H&M at $34.95 (I got the Gap ones for $29.70!) What should I do? Keep or continue my hunt?

I also picked up this J.Crew Glimmer sash in heirloom pink, currently selling in stores for $9.99 or online for $19.99 $14.99. I'm not normally a sequins girl, but I like to experiment in small doses, and this seemed like a good way to start. I think it's a good buy, especially when I was ready to fork over $20, but got it for $10!

Inspired by: Madewell - Friday I'm in love

Friday, October 22, 2010

Happy Friday! And happy monthly anniversary to my boyfriend <3 The colors of today's outfit is probably better fit for spring, but with temps in the 60s I didn't care =) Just to give this outfit a bit of an extra oomph, I added my own touches with the jacket and flower sash.

Trail blazin'

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

When I was putting on this blazer today, it got me thinking... do you always wear a long sleeve underneath? What happens if you want to wear a tank/cami/sleeveless shirt? Aren't you afraid of deodorant or sweat marks leaving behind residue inside a dry-clean-only blazer? Or am I the only one who worries? =P Are there any precautions I should take?

Ms. October

Monday, October 18, 2010

I'm really liking this long cardigan. Most of my tops are rather short, hitting me at the waist or above, so there's always that danger of flashing skin at inappropriate times.

The more I compare my purchases now to ones from a few years ago, my taste may just be maturing =O The colors I gravitate towards, the styles I pick out, they're all so adult-like. It's definitely not on par with my mental state of mind, which still feels as if I'm still in college lol. As long as I continue to dress my age and not older, there's nothing to worry about. Do you feel you dress your age?

French blue

Thursday, October 14, 2010

A few of us got together the other day to say goodbye to a friend moving to the other side of the country. While I was sad to see her go, I couldn't help but feel excited for her and this time in her life. Definitely a bittersweet moment.

We ended up eating at an Asian restaurant (sorry no pics of food =/). I don't want to sound OCD, but I plan my outfit around whether or not smells will stick to my clothes =D In this case, I know it will, so everything I wore was wear-once-and-toss-into-the-laundry-basket. I shudder to think about dry cleaning bills after only wearing something once. Does anyone else do this?

One of the guys

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

I was thinking of my childhood when I put together today's outfit. I was a tomboy growing up, always running around and playing sports with the boys. Anything they can do, I can do better. No false modesty here =P

Today's outfit is inspired by the quintessential country club outfit for guys -- sports coat with khakis, but with a girly twist of course. I'm loving my new Banana Republic wrap, but I find myself having trouble concentrating at work because I just want to lean back and take a nap haha. How do you like to tone down masculine looks?

Haul: Old Navy jacket + cardigan

Sunday, October 10, 2010

To continue with my Old Navy purchases from last week's sale, I also bought this Ruffle-Collar Wool-Blend Jacket in mellow yellow, size XS P. It reminded me so much of Lauren Conrad's yellow coat with the peter pan collar (I think that's what it's called). I love bright colored jackets for winter, as they stand out amongst the sea of dark winter colors. I didn't try too hard to "flatten" out the collar when I took the pic, but I think with some work it could look better. I was a bit iffy about the empire-waist style, especially on a coat buttoned up. As it turns out, I'm not sold on how it looks on me. It definitely looks a lot better unbuttoned. The sleeves and shoulder area was also a bit tight. I'm thinking about exchanging it for a regular XS, but with winter not even here yet, I bet Old Navy will put this jacket on the sale rack for cheaper than what I bought it for. I'll have to sleep on this one. It's currently being sold here.

I also bought the Old Navy V-Neck Cardigan in light heather gray, size XS Tall. Why tall and not regular or petite? I'm looking for a longer boyfriend-type cardigan and I figured this would fit the bill. The sleeves are a bit long, but I was prepared for that. The length was exactly what I was looking for and the material is so soft. This one's definitely a keeper! Currently being sold on their site.

Look for less: Loeffler Randall Matilde -> Old Navy Sliver-Wedge Boots

Friday, October 08, 2010

Ever since these Loeffler Randall Matilde boots (pictured left) came out a few years ago, it's been seen on multiple celebs and lusted after by moi. The $700 price tag that comes attached is just way too steep for me. So I waited and waited... until I saw these Old Navy Sliver-Wedge boots in camel, size 6 (pictured right) for $40! Yes, $40! (currently sold here) Granted they're made of synthetic materials but look at the resemblance! I was able to buy it with their 30% off code from last week, so overall I paid a tad under $30.

The boots are fairly lightweight and thin. The inside is felt-like -- maybe suede? (probably not given the price). I've never tried on the Matildes, so I don't know how easy or hard it is to wear. Even with the zipper on the Old Navy ones, I had trouble pulling them up over my jeans! It mostly happened with my left leg, but I had to seriously wedge my feet in there while tugging on the boot shaft at the same time. It was not a pretty picture. But once I got them on, I found them to be comfortable and easy to walk in. I like to wear knee-high socks with my boots, but I don't think there will be room with this pair (unless I wear tights).
I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to trying and judging how boots look on me. Any thoughts? I'm still debating whether I should keep them. For $30, it seems like a no-brainer to keep, right? But it's still money. I do like how they look on me but putting them on is such a pain, I'm not sure it's worth it. What do you guys think? Should I keep or return?

Like a stewardess?

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

A scarf is supposed to be versatile, right? I've tied the scarf to my bags, but due to the silky fabric, the bow comes untied rather easily. I'd rather not double knot unless I have to. The length is a bit too short to wear as a belt, unless I pin the ends down. So here goes my attempt at wearing it around my neck. Is it too much like an airline stewardess? Yay or nay?

Haul: Banana Republic jacket + wrap

Sunday, October 03, 2010

A couple items I bought from Banana Republic's birthday sale last week...

First is the Banana Republic Double knit charcoal melange jacket in dark charcoal gray, size 0. I should have read the fabric content more carefully because I expected the jacket to be structured -- like a suiting jacket. But straight out of the box, this jacket puddles into a ball. In a way it's nice because it's so soft to the touch, but it wasn't what I wanted. It's also very tight in the arms and armpit area (can hardly raise my arms!), so this is going back to the store. Even on sale for $75 (retails $140), I don't think I'll exchange it even if I find one in a size up.

pants: Express (this season's version sold here)

The next two items I bought were the Banana Republic Solid jersey wrap in pale hyacinth and steel blue. I couldn't decide on a color and needed another item to receive free shipping (horrible, I know), so I ordered both. In my head I kept telling myself, it helps to see the color in person before I decide =P These wraps are so soft to the touch, machine washable, and the ruffles are so feminine (love!). My wardrobe has nothing in lilac/purple so that's the color I've decided to keep. Can't wait until the weather gets cold! Buy it online here.
