Petite Fashion Challenge #18: Impress Your Date
Thursday, July 26, 2012
Hosted by Amber, Petite Fashion Challenge #18: Impress Your Date has us creating an outfit to impress our date. Generally, we wear what makes us feel good, regardless of what other people think. But what is your secret for making your outfit a little more memorable? Bonus points for pics taken with your dates or on a girls' night out!
Sorry I didn't try for bonus points this time, so instead I'll take a trip down memory lane...
DH isn't going to let me forget this, but I believe for our first date, we ate lunch at Silver Diner and then played a round of mini-golf afterwards. I'm positive I remember lunch correctly because I thought it was a splurge for two broke college kids. The ironic thing is, as we started to make money in our careers, our dates progressively became cheaper, lol. My memory's fuzzy on the mini golf portion because I don't remember why I dressed casually. I'm pretty sure I wore my typical teenaged summer uniform of a polo, denim skirt, and flats. I either said to myself 1) this is me, so take it or leave it, or 2) my competitive nature rears its ugly head when I mini-golf (every millimeter counts if I want to make that hole-in-one! So dressy clothes and teeter-tottering in heels simply won't do).
Fast forward a few years, I can confidently say that my secret for making outfits more memorable is playing up my best feature, my legs. I could argue that I subconsciously knew it back then too, but truth is, I was easily influenced (A&F ads, anyone?) and just wore the shortest skirt possible.
For mile-long legs, I pair short shorts with heels (preferably nude, not too tall but enough to achieve better posture, hence illusion of slimmer legs). My skirts nowadays are longer and somewhat (?) more age-appropriate. Typically I wear shorter skirts with flats and longer ones with heels. But for a night out, anything goes. In general, skirts won't make my legs look as long, but they're a great alternative for when I want to feel more feminine.
For this challenge, I went the skirt route and started with a blank white slate. I like wearing white because of the contrast against my naturally darker skin tone. Bright lip color and lots of jewelry later, I'm all set for a semi-casual night out.

Love that necklace, Cee! White is a great color on you. You look so fresh and summery!
ReplyDeleteI love your white outfit. It is really summery! I love necklaces too. So beautifully tangled(?)
ReplyDeleteBTW, such a cute memory of your first date! Love it too!
lol at the A&F ads! I remember I used to wear everything super short, too. You knew what you were doing then, haha! Love the white on you, its stunning against your skin!
ReplyDeleteyou look great!! i love this outfit - the necklace and the shoes are awesome!! xox P
ReplyDeleteI love the color palette- so summery and chic:)
ReplyDeleteI love your necklace and sandals! Such a great look for summer!
ReplyDeleteOoh, rocking that lip color! Your legs are definitely a good asset, but I'm just envious in general of your long, lithe look. Love how you amped up the accessories to balance the monochromaticity!
ReplyDeleteLOL about your dates getting progressively cheaper! Our dates have gone from activity based to food based. I cannot remember the last time we decided to "do" something as a couple. I think it was going to the chiropractor for an adjustment, haha.
HAHA @ a date with the chiropractor. I cannot.stop.laughing :D
DeleteOne of my FAVE outfits!! White, cotton, comfy , chic and sexy! I love the pearl necklace as well and actually I want this entire outfit including those lovely bow sandals!!
ReplyDeleteBow sandals are still avail in many sizes. Just sayin' and enablin' ;) I can see you wearing them with your amazing custom turquoise bow skirt!
DeleteLove the entire outfit and the colours - looks like a summer date! Plus the bows and pearls to add the feminine touch to a simple outfit!
ReplyDeleteLove the white! So perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteoh how are you liking this lip shade? i almost picked it up!
ReplyDeleteYou can see my photos now? Woohoo! I was exploring other options (like Flickr) but now I'll just put that on the back burner, lol.
DeleteHmm, my feelings are mixed towards this lip color.
1) I wish the color was more coral. It looks more red on me and not really what I expected after googling for pictures online. Are you paler than me? If so, it might look better on you.
2) Don't really feel all that moisturizing on me.
3) Wears off by the end of the day, but personally I think it looks better on me by then, haha.
those shoes!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, easy look for summer. White is definitely your color. :) I like the necklace as a sash as well.
ReplyDeleteThe white outifts looks simple but the accessories made you look elegant and so gorgeous , however great mix!
ReplyDeleteI typically don't wear white on a date night knowing how messy I am =) but you look great. It's such a simple but versatile outfit at the same time. Have a great weekend, Cee!
ReplyDeleteAnother klutz here! But knowing both pieces are machine washable puts me more at ease ;)
DeleteI love all your accessories!! They really add a lot to the outfit...I usually don't wear all white...maybe because I don't know how to accessorize it like you! Great look!
ReplyDeletemake sure you dont wear this to honey pig since youll get it all over your outfit:) I love the white skirt with the shirt and the necklace goes really well. You do have very nice legs!
ReplyDeleteI honestly can not remember what I wore when I met my husband! lol I think im going to go home and ask him. I just remember he wore this ugly leather jacket :D
Hehehe, the outfit will be okay at Honey Pig. It's machine washable so the grease and stains will come out ;)
DeleteLOL at the ugly leather jacket! Got a pic?
I would be too scare to wear white on a date. Even if I try my best to be clean, I always end up with something on my white clothes. I love everything about this outfit from head to toe. It simple, clean, casual and chic.
ReplyDeleteAs usual it's love for your outfits!
ReplyDeletewow! i love the freshness of this white outfit! so chic! I wish I was more courageous wearing white, but you make me want to try.

LOL our dates get cheaper and cheaper too! I have no idea when the last time we went out to a "nice" dinner, because we can buy steaks at the grocery store and grill them ourselves for a whole lot cheaper. "Going out to eat" now is like, either pho, cheap sushi, or Mexican for us.
ReplyDeleteLove your all-white outfit with the bright lips! I'm still too chicken to try out any lip color. Maybe someday. :)
For our last anniversary, we had takeout from Outback, hahaha. Sigh. It's sad we couldn't even bring ourselves to get dressed and dine in a restaurant. We really do need to learn how to grill though. It's probably cheating, but I think a George Foreman grill is calling our name :)
DeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
