Vintage florals
Tuesday, April 19, 2011Warmer weather means it's time to bring my useless dresses out of hibernation. I'm determined to wear skirts and dresses as much as possible this spring/summer. Today's dress isn't vintage, it's just old ("vintage florals" had a better ring to it than "old florals"). Old as in, the first dress I bought for myself almost a decade ago. Yeah, I didn't learn to dress myself until college. Super embarrassing to admit, but funny to think about now.

I didn't know how to dress myself until about 2 years after college. I love your dress BTW. I can't believe that dress is from Express. When I think Express dresses I usually think something black, tight and shiny for some reason. Never cute & floral.

Pretty dress, I like how you roughed it up wit the green jacket. And of course the flower is fabulous

I was going to tell you how I saw those Loft flower pins you got at the store the other day. They were on sale but I didn't get them. Felt like it would overwhelm me since it looks huge on me compared to you. I like this floral print - I think it has a lot of easter-y colors, its the pastels! And you're lucky you started dressing yourself well during college....I was still all about hoodies, now- I would never wear a hoodie out. Hahaha, oh how times have changed!
ReplyDeleteLove the military style jacket with this dress!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to bring out summer dresses, skirts and sandals. This cold weather is getting old. :)
oh wow...can't believe that dress is express! very nice pairing w/ the green jacket (it's so unique to you!) and the flower softened the look up so it's not so "structured." gosh Cee, i find myself always anxious to see your blog/outfit updates! you're like my style guru...LOL =P
ReplyDeleteI swear that green jacket is so awesome..I agree with Kimchi girl above me..you're one of the few ladies that I really look forward to seeing on my dashboard!
ReplyDeleteI didn't learn to shop until about junior year of college, and I'm still not quite sure I know how to dress myself :)
ReplyDeleteI love the military type jacket with the floral dress. I think that's such a great mix for spring. And also...I really, really want that clutch. I am such a purse nut, unfortunately.
Cute mix of soft and hard texture, it is so you.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that I still don't quite know how to dress myself sometimes lol.
That is a nice dress to build a wardrobe around! The print is quite lovely but does have some vintage elements to it. Never heard of Jenny Yuen (I don't have great brand knowledge, such a noobie) but I really have a strong urge to pet the clutch. LOL it looks so leathery sooooft!
ReplyDelete@Jenn - Back in the day (gosh, I sound old), Express used to be more like The Limited -- feminine but appropriate for work. Now there's more emphasis on casual and clubwear, imo. It's sad cuz I wish I had bought more back then!
ReplyDelete@Miranda - Thank you :)
@Jarucha - I actually returned the LOFT ones and picked up these bigger ON flower pins because they had alligator clips in the back. Much more friendly for my more expensive blazers :) I do think the ON ones are huge, probably comparable to how the LOFT ones look on you. But I love them, and even if they're as big as my head, I'm just going to keep telling myself I don't look silly, lol.
@Lilly's Style - I can't wait until spring hits your area, either. I want to see your cute summery clothes :)
@Kimchi Girl - You're way too kind! Back in the day Express was much more non-clubbing/trendy that it is now. Now that I think about it, I miss the old Express!
@b_ra - Thanks... but wait until I have a bad outfit :) Can't keep this streak up! I haven't stepped foot inside AE in awhile, so I don't know if stores still have this jacket. What size do you take there? I'll keep my eyes out for you.
@Tara - What?! How come I didn't know you were a purse lover?! Collection post please? :) For some reason JY's store is offline right now. Try eBay, though she's not that big of a name, so listings might be rare (that's where I got mine). Retail cost is kinda pricey.
@Nelah - Haha, I meant I literally wore sweatshirts and sweatpants and only god knows what every.single.day. I'm still learning, but at least I'm trying now :)
@Banhannas - JY's not a household name, though I *think* she did apprentice with whoever designed LV's cherry blossom line? Don't quote me on that though. And yes, I lovveee the leather of my clutch.
I want to see more dresses and skirts on you so I am happy to hear you are going to wear more of it! YAY!
ReplyDeleteAnd I honestly THOUGHT I knew how to dress until I started blogging and realized I had no idea what the heck I was doing...wearing the wrong sizes (too big) and not putting any thought into my purchases or outfits:)
Can't wait to see you in more dresses and skirts...and dare I say heels?!? Whoops I shouldn't put pressure on you b/c I'm sure I'll end up in flats and jeans all summmer :P
ReplyDeleteI couldn't dress either - not positive that I even can now LOL! I don't remember what I wore - things that didn't fall off me and didn't have holes in it I considered a good "fit" :P
haha, seems likes lots of us are late-bloomers in learning how to dress ourselves...I think I've also been more conscious of what to wear after college and with a job...money does help with the shopping experience....and I'm more excited now about learning how to dress myself finding this petite community bloggers where we can bounce off ideas...lucky for us we got our blogs, hehe. And you look totally anthropologie today!
ReplyDeleteI'm another late bloomer...but I guess we all get better with age right? Who wants to peak in high school anyways? LOL.
ReplyDeleteBut I was really surprised to see this outfit because it's so different from what I'm used to seeing on your site....and it's AMAZING!!! Love the subdued florals and the green jacket, it has a great balance between the hard and soft. =)
Army green and florals!! I've been doing this recently too.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the floral design. This dress is perfect for the spring time. I guess it is sometimes okay/ good to keep items in your closet that you don't always wear. You never know if you'll find the perfect time to wear it again. =D
I'm sure you're not the only one who started dressing up more during college. I think it's the same for me... if not later. It was more like the end of college.
Question about your flats. Did you buy a size up or did you buy your normal size?
<3 s.
Love you in this outfit Cee!! I don't think I've ever seen you in something this feminine before and it looks so good on you ;)
ReplyDelete@Really Petite - So true, I'm still learning so many new things everyday, but it wasn't until college that I ventured out of sweats/jeans/hoodies every.single.day, haha.
ReplyDelete@Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews) - Maybeee to heels :D
@Olyvia - Yes! Money played a big factor. I would always feel guilty spending my parents' money, even if they were given to me as a gift. But after I started earning my own money, all qualms went out the window and I went crazy. But I'm slowly learning to pick pieces that I love and not get caught up in the buying all the trends out there.
@Stylepint - So true! I think back to high-school-me, who was so envious of all the girls that looked great, but only to realize now that what looked good on them wouldn't necessarily look good on me. Hehehe, I'm taking baby steps in trying out different styles. This one is tapping my girly side, which is way, way, way deep inside :)
@serenadeveryday - I went up half a size for these flats. Even then, they were pretty tight the first couple of wears. After awhile they've stretched out a bit and conformed to my feet so I'm happy about that. I have normal-to-wide feet though, if that helps. Good luck with your search!
@Callandra - Thank you! I had to dig deep, way deep to channel my feminine side :)
Love this pairing! I think you breathed new life into an older garment! And YAY - I see some hair (although technically I already saw it when you posted the link to your March 2010 post) :)
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous dress and the flower pin totally makes the jacket! i love it!
ReplyDeletecute & little
I'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
