Petite Fashion Challenge #6: Dress Up Your Basics

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Hosted by Jess @ Stylepint, Petite Fashion Challenge #6: Dress Up Your Basics has us starting off with jeans and a tee, and dressing it up to show off your personal style with accessories, jewelry, etc.

I took the easy way out and picked a blazer and scarf *chagrined* But, I went out of my comfort zone and wore heels. It's progress, even if I only wore them during this photo shoot. Baby steps, I tell myself.

Silly as it seems, I couldn't bring myself to poke holes in my beloved theory blazer, so I taped the flower pins on. Yes, another ghetto fabulous solution to my fashion dilemma. Knowing me though, instead of a holey lapel (since I wouldn't have gotten the placements right in one try), tape seems like a great decision now.
blazer: theory
flower pins: LOFT (currently sold here)
scarf: American Eagle
tee: H&M
jeans: LOFT

  5. Two flower pins?? Hot pink heels?? OMG...this is amazing. I love it!
I totally understand the holes in the lapel thing. My white Theory blazer has icky pin holes from an old, slightly tarnished brooch I poked through it recently. :P

  6. Totally loving those heels, Cee! So gorgeous!
How long did the tape last? I wouldn't poke holes on a Theory blazer either, that makes the two of us.
LOL on your title. We are on PFC #6, Cee, not #5. Hehe.

  8. I love the accent of magenta in both your flower and your shoes! Wonderfully coordinated without being overly matchy-matchy :)

Ugh I wish I knew to post my challenge ON March 24th, not by it! I need to read better.

  10. Gasp I love the hot pink flower pin and shoes...you never fail to surprise me with your unique accessorizing, Cee! I don't take as much care with my Theory blazers...I pin away at the lapel but I haven't seen any lasting holes yet!

  11. My FAVORITE outfit of the night! I love it! The outfit is so unexpected but it is so you. You did great :)

  12. LOVe your shoes - I may need to hunt them down! Are you wearing your normal size in them?

If you don't like poking holes with your brooches, you can remove the pin and replace them with the little magnet pin backs. You can probably get them at Hobby Lobby or Michaels for keep and they won't leave a mark on your jackets. I have some magnet name badges that I need to wear for shows sometimes and they really hold tight!

  13. I agree with PetiteLittleGirl! Your is my fav outfit of the challenge. You really took actual basics and dressed them up so simply yet so well. I know what you mean about poking holes into things. I've been wanting to put a flower pin on my Longchamp tote and can't bring myself to do even that, lol. But I love how you kept and wore both of those flower pins. The pink heels are HOT and the subtle pattern on the scarf pulls it altogether. And love the strut too ;)

  27. OMG I love this Cee - the walking post is my FAV! You should wear heels more often, it totally makes your legs look even longer! LOL I wouldn't want to poke holes either, I probably would've tried those aligator clips or something. I love the colour of that scarf too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love the different white tee/blazer combos! Yours is styled so perfectly with the pink!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I looove your outfit Cee! Definitely one of my favs with just the right touch of color and pop. Those shoes go perfectly with your flower pin, and the scarf ties everything together with elements of both the pink and white. So well coordinated... bravo!

  38. Thank you everyone for their kind and positive words :) I couldn't resist the walking picture after seeing it on street blogs. I may have to wear heels more often just to take more pictures like that, haha.

@Vicky - HAHA I must've poked my brain with that pin. Thanks for catching the error! The flowers fell off one time each over about a 15 min time span. I had to concentrate and not move too fast though lol.

@Lisa - respect the shoes - Yep, the shoes run TTS for me and I have semi-wide feet. It was tight in the toebox at first, but I used the stuffed sock trick for a day and everything fits perfectly now.

I've never heard of magnet pin backs! Will have to check them out now at my local stores. Thanks Lisa!

@Olyvia - Hehe, sturdy enough to take pictures in, but not to last a whole day.

Thanks for your comment. I really don't know you wouldn't look good in long dresses! The one I bought Isn't floor length, it hits a around my calf and is very flowy at the bottom.

  49. Forgot to ask you if you kept all three pins or just the two pictured here? And what you decided with the Loft skirt? This outfit is so lively! Looks like you had an extra spring in your step with the heels! Stupid me forgot to try the ruffle dress while I was at loft. :(

  52. Gorgeous look. I love it. Please if you can let me know what loft style jeans are this? and what size did you got (regular or petite? I don't usually like the cuffed jeans but this one I love it!

  53. @Banhannas - Packaging tape ftw :D

@Jarucha - I'm keeping all 3 pins for now :) Hopefully it'll go on sale soon and I can get a price adjustment. Same with the floral skirt in 0P. I think it should look ok without tailoring if I tuck tops in. Ahhh, I'm so indecisive lol.

@Claud - I actually bought these jeans awhile ago in size 00R. I found 00P to fit about the same but the length is shorter. I'm almost 5'5" if that helps. Let me know if you're able to hunt them down!
