In a funk
Tuesday, March 29, 2011I'm experiencing styling block. It's a term I made up, like writer's block for bloggers. So today's outfit is another inspired copied look from my favorite retailer, J.Crew. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's copying. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, no?
jacket: Abercrombie & Fitch
top: LOFT
shirt: Hollister
pants: LOFT
shoes: Nine West (non-outlet version sold here)
bag: Balenciaga

You look great, Cee! No evidence of a styling funk :)
ReplyDeleteI love this look. You look very chic. There is nothing wrong with copying retailer's looks. That's what they're for :)
ReplyDeletei'm a big fan of this look! it's giving me ideas on how to wear my jean jacket more. and i love how your shoes match your bag. :)
ReplyDeletecute & little
come check out the color brigade!
i love this cee.. it's casual yet chic at the same time!! you look effortlessly stylish!
ReplyDeleteStop being so effortlessly glamorous... Stop it.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the gray better you are wearing as opposed to the yellow/tan in the image. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with kimmie - I don't see any funk!
ReplyDelete(And I think you could totally turn this into a new feature for your blog - taking a look from our fave retailers or fashion mags and styling them to make them work with your wardrobe!)
Haha, Cee. If I have your talent on copying, I'm all set. Another great look you got there. Did you try belting it like what the model did? Just curious why you didn't copy the belt. I thought the belt was quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! It's so nice and put together! In fact, I think your style is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like an awesome funk to me!
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with using inspirational pieces! I love JCrew catalogues. Wow, really love those LOFT pants (are they cropped) they taper reaaaaally nicely at the ankle. Weird though, I find most of them flare out too much for my liking.
ReplyDeleteI think you don't have to be original to be stylish. Retailers are there to provide inspiration so you're doing them a service by making people want their clothes. I am not the biggest fan of jeans jackets but this look is making me change my mind!
ReplyDeleteI swear, I don't mean to sound pitiful lately (is that even a word?) and seeking compliments. I just tend to be pretty honest with myself and whatever state of mind I'm in. But again, thank you all for such encouraging words :) I'll be back to my happy, cheery self soon!
ReplyDelete@Lisa - respect the shoes - That sounds like a great idea, I just might! Browsing catalogs for hours needs to pay off somehow, right? ;)
@Vicky - I'm actually wearing a belt!! Around the pants' waist that is. I completely forgot to unloop it and wear it like the model when I took pictures. Must've been too eager to leave work to rush home. D'oh!
@Banhannas - It's funny you should mention the pants because I tucked the hem under even more so than usual today! At their normal length, they're way too long. Are petites sizing long on you? Cuz you could try the same.
Cee, I love the idea of using inspiration photos (I've done it a few times myself and have seen other bloggers do it, too!) It really does make life easier, especially on those days when you look into your closet and nothing seems to call your name!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I forgot to mention that I love today's outfit! No funk in sight!
ReplyDeleteAh!! I love this look!!
ReplyDeleteYou are great at replicating these looks!
I have to say, I am pretty impressed with your styling block...you wear it better than anyone else I know :)
ReplyDeleteThis Life, Redefined…stop by and say hi!
You are always good at interpreting and translating those looks and make them your way which is good. I call it a "talent" :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! It's hard to believe that you're in a styling funk because I don't think I've ever seen you look bad and you did so superbly well with the 30 for 30! However, if you need inspiration, J. Crew is a gorgeous style bible :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what the ads are for--for you to replicate and rock them! I just have my 6 year old dress me. He is my personal stylist.
ReplyDeleteJen Hemming and Hawing Again
I also love this "funky" look.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it, Cee! I love how you use inspiration photos (I might have said that already once). Looking great!
ReplyDeleteCee, I'll take your "funk" any day (ok, now that was a weird sentence, but I hope you know what I meant!). I'm actually slightly regretting not getting a BR outlet jean jacket a while back that fit pretty decently... at the time I thought I wouldn't know how to style it or wear it very often, but you seem to have no problem coming up with many different variations for yours!
ReplyDeleteOh you could never look bad! I like that term, "styling block". I'm in that state all the time :P
ReplyDeleteWhat funk Cee? You look incredible...I am not afraid to say that I think not-so-fondly of denim jackets but you wear it even better than that model. so much so that I thought I needed one (it was fleeting though because I am self-aware :P) and darn you LOFT top for selling out before I found you.
ReplyDeleteIf this is your "funk" then I must have some serious funk...LOL You always look put together and I love the inspirational photos! I may have to steal the idea!! LOL
ReplyDeleteexcellent look, you're so good at following inspiration photos =)

I must get black skinnies!!!! b/c I, too, have a jean jacket, but I can only wear it w/dresses& rompers.
ReplyDelete@Jen HaHA - Lucky duck :P I need a personal stylist that talks back, but for now J.Crew catalogs will have to do :)
ReplyDelete@PetiteXXS, @Elle - When I was purging my closet awhile back, I thought about giving this denim jacket up. Now, I can't believe that ever crossed my mind!! It's a staple in my closet that's for sure :)
@Really Petite - Pshhh girl, I have never seen you in a funk. And I probably never will :) Steal away!
@AubreyOhDang! - Yes to the black skinnies. This is the only pair I own and it's already been worn to death <3
Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
