Checkmate
Monday, November 26, 2012A few weeks back, I saw a J.Crew store mannequin wearing a navy peacoat with lilac pants (looked to be these two items). I immediately fell in love with the color combo and mentally added the items to my wishlist (even though I wasn't sure how many wears I'd get out of lilac pants).
Then while rummaging through my closet for a scarf, I re-discovered this lilac colored one hidden in the back. Two things immediately came to mind: (1) you know your closet's too big if you can't keep track of all the items in it :( and (2) even knowing the first point, I'm still itching to find a navy peacoat (with gold buttons). Perhaps this will be the perfect opportunity to donate the beige peacoat in my possession.
In the meantime, here's today's outfit featuring the navy + lilac color combo that's been on my mind far too long.

love the combination of those colors! That's why I enjoy window-shopping so much. Getting new ideas to style outfits and realize you have something similar at home is even better :)
ReplyDeleteCount me in as a window-shopping fan as well :) Though with the ease of online shopping now, I find myself window shopping in real life less often than before. I kinda miss it, now I think about it.
DeleteThe navy and lilac combo is pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lisa...layering pro! :p You made the gingham top and striped belt work by leaving your top open and with a white shirt.
I have the crew Factory peacoat - $99 today? Navy with gold buttons! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the Factory sale too late! By the time I clicked over, only yellow and purple peacoats were left :( I'm hoping there will be returns after the holidays!
Deletethis is so fun - i concur with the ladies: you are the layering queen!

Such a pretty color combo, Cee! I love how effortless your layers always look. Great outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love this interpretation and if you ever find lavender pants and a peacoat, I'd love to see that too! What about buying a peacoat and switching out the buttons yourself? I seem to recall you mentioning button sewing ;)
ReplyDeleteI was at the mall tonight and saw C.Wonder's navy peacoat in person -- floor samples already had a lot of lint gathered =/ Then I ventured out to J.Crew and saw the majesty peacoat up close and really loved the texture and feel. If the price drops low enough, I may just put up with the less-than-ideal sleeve length. I also tried on the wool cafe capris in this light lilac color but the fit just doesn't flatter me. The hunt continues!
DeleteOh yeah, sewing buttons. I've only tried it on small and light buttons in the past, but I bet I can try sewing heavier/bigger ones too. If not, I can ask SIL to fix up my shoddy work, haha. Thanks for the idea, S!
DeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
