Gray and Rainy

Monday, March 05, 2012

Every once in awhile I try to mix things up here on the blog. Many outfits are experiments as I dip my foot out of my comfort zone. As a result, many looks are misses more so than hits. Today's trial item is a pair of leggings. I've been tucking skinny/straight jeans into boots, but can never avoid the bunching around the knees. Leggings solved that issue, but now I have no idea what to wear on top. I don't own any long sweaters or tunics, so that left a makeshift dress belted to resemble a tunic and a long boyfriend cardigan. Final verdict after seeing photos? Ehh.

How do you like to pair leggings?

scarf: gift from SewPetiteGal (shop her Etsy store)
cardigan: Talbots epaulette boyfriend (sold here)
belt around dress (hidden): J.Crew skinny leather (similar)
ring: Forever 21 pearlescent cluster ring (sold here)
leggings: H&M (recent - should still be in stores)
socks: Forever 21 knee length (similar)

    1. Yes it is. And the best part? It's not itchy! I actually find myself reaching for it more and more lately because I don't have to figure out other accessories to go with it, haha.

    1. Long tee = genius! I think my hot pink tee should be long enough (if it hadn't shrunk in the wash). I'll definitely be giving that a try. Thank you Amber!

  3. I always have that problem with skinny pants as well.
I'm really loving this look, it just looks so cozy yet chic.

    1. I'm more ok with wearing tops that don't cover my bottom with skinny pants. Leggings though are a different story. I'd feel self-conscious with my bottom hanging out lol.

  4. I actually love how this outfit turned out Cee, I would call it a hit for sure! Not just saying that either, I think leggings look the best on modelesque frames and your legs are perfect for them. On top of that, your color palette of gray/lavendar and light purple is the perfect mix for coming out of winter...working our way into spring ;)

    1. So having chicken legs finally pay off ;) All joking aside, thanks for the feedback. I wear tights often enough, so you'd think leggings wouldn't feel that different, but somehow they do. It's probably all in my head, haha.

  9. I actually really like how you wore yours. The layers and drapes look great. I normally wear mine with long sweaters and boots. Perhaps it's time you shopped for some long sweaters :D

    1. Oh no, more reason to shop? Not that I need any ;) Thanks Joey, I am considering it. I'm still not really sure where my aversion to sweaters came from... but it's probably a combination of how I prefer to wear many thin layers and how a lot of sweaters shed and/or itchy. I'm sure once I find the perfect one, I would be kicking myself for not looking harder sooner :)

    1. Haha I hope I didn't come off like I'm fishing for compliments. I'm pretty blunt in real life, so I tell it like it is (hopefully through writing as well). We're oftentimes our own harshest critic, right? ;) Thanks KG!

    1. Why is it that when I want to make up a long word using dashes and adjectives, I can't think of any?! Gonna have to steal "messy-effortless-I-just-threw-this-on-but-still-look-impossibly-stylish" in the future ;)

  14. I think your outfit choices are always hits and never misses. I love all the creative ways you remix your existing wardrobe into brand new looks. Your modified tunic is so clever!

I love how comfortable leggings are but am not at all creative with them. I always wear them with boots and a long top (long enough to cover the tush).

    1. I haven't been clothes shopping as much lately (home decor is expensive!) so these item pairings aren't my first (nor probably even second) choices. Gotta figure out ways to make them worthy of repeat wears ;)

  16. What? I would say most of your outfits are definite hits! I have actually never worn leggings as leggings either if you don't count grade 5 :P I have worn them as tights under my sweater dress or something similar. I really love this look, it's slouchy but in a good way. I think your proportions are perfect for this look b/c even though you may be petite I would never guess it just from your photos!

    1. Haha, I'm not fishing for compliments, just that I'd like to think I tell it like it is :) Thanks though Elaine for the feedback.

Would it count that the last time I wore leggings was probably in college, when I wore them under water resistant pants as part of my makeshift "ski pants", hahaha. Oh the days when I was too cheap to buy things that make my life easier. Oh wait, that's happening now too lol.
