Gray / Poppy / Green
Sunday, October 19, 2014If given the choice between hand washing or dry cleaning clothes, I usually opt for the latter due to laziness. The one time I decided to be pro-active, I shrunk my shirt. Face palms. The gray tee I'm wearing in today's outfit is pre-blunder, and though it's hard to tell, the fit is loose and tunic-like. It was perfect. After I hand washed the viscose top per the care label, I realized it shrunk about two sizes. Wtf. I was pissed off and walked around muttering to myself for two days before finally calming down. Curiosity led me to search Google for the possibility of unshrinking clothing. I found and thought this set of instructions looked promising so decided to give it a try... and it worked! I successfully unshrunked my top. I can now look back and laugh at how ridiculous I was being to be so mad during those two days.

If I had purchased a top and it shrunk after I washed it according to the care label, I'd take it back to the store where I bought it and ask for a refund. However, I've been known to ignore labels, particularly ones that tell me that I can only dry clean the garment, so in that case, I'm bound to screw up and shrink something so it's nice to know I could possibly 'unshrink' it. I had no idea. So am I reading the instructions correctly that after you soak your top in water with conditioner (or baby shampoo), that you're not supposed to rinse out the conditioner (or baby shampoo)?
ReplyDeleteOoh good call about asking for a refund. I generally avoid confrontation cuz I'm a wuss =/ But if I hadn't been able to unshrink the shirt, I would've made myself woman up and deal with it (at least that's what I like to think I'd do, haha).
DeleteNot rinsing out conditioner/baby shampoo sounded really strange (and icky) to me too, so I googled around some more. I found an explanation that said conditioner/baby shampoo helps relax the fibers in the rayon/viscose material so you can "stretch" it back out. Even knowing that, I wasn't sure how the shirt would feel post-air dry, like would there be residue left behind, etc? Surprisingly there wasn't and my shirt felt as soft as ever. Huh. I'll take it though!
LOVE that scarf!! Amazing touch!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, love the scarf. I just invested in a pair of Tory Burch Marlene riding boots this Fall. They are wonderful. These are the ones I got. http://davisbe.wordpress.com/2014/09/26/statement-boots/
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I'm bookmarking that link. I never knew you could un-shrink rayon! Good to know!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
