Petite Fashion Challenge #19: Trend Benders
Tuesday, September 18, 2012
Hosted by Angie, Petite Fashion Challenge #19: Trend Benders has us picking a Summer or Fall 2012 trend and making it work for us, whether it's going all-out, incorporating it into a professional outfit or using it in moderation.
Like many, burgundy/oxblood/maroon is at the top of my must-wear list for Fall 2012. I've already been getting wears out of this sweater (with many more to come), so I didn't feel I'd be challenging myself if I put together another regular ol' outfit.
My eyes have been focused on burgundy lately, so I turned to Google thinking it'd be fun if I could somehow mix another trend with burgundy. I saw brocade as another and knew I had an item from my closet to experiment with.
The dress is an old one that was already a bit tight when I bought from Elle awhile back, and even more so now that I've gained some weight. The skirt portion poofed out much more than I remembered, so I ended up channeling Blair, the queen of full skirts. The burgundy sweater served two purposes: 1) complements the patterned gold brocade fabric and 2) hides the strained back zipper that I came this close to giving up on. To top it off, I added simple and neutral accessories.
Be sure to check out outfits from other participants!

Ooh, the trend I'm most excited about for fall is also burgundy! I just posted my burgundy-inspired outfit for the challenge, too. :) I'm loving that full skirt on you, too, and how you've paired it with ankle boots!

Adore this outfit!! Cannot wait til h&m goes fully online, that's for sure. I had to give up on waiting for the burgundy Tippi to go on sale at J Crew, and I picked up the Scoopneck sweeter in burgundy at Banana - really cute and runs small.
ReplyDeleteBurgundy obsessed right alongside you! :)
I really hope H&M goes online as scheduled, too. There's only one store in the area that carries the Trend line and it's a bit of a hike.
DeleteThanks for the tip on the BR sweater :) I'll have to check it out sometime.
how sweet! i like how you paired burgundy with a carefree a-line skirt and those nice booties. cute for fall!

Such a lovely outfit! I've been eying burgundy, and bought a lot of them already - now I have to sort them out to decide which one I should keep...
ReplyDeleteLol that sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon ;) Good luck and do let us know if you need help deciding!
Deletethis full skirt looks great on you!

I am absolutely IN LOVE with this outfit, Cee!! Burgundy is one of my fave colors to wear for Fall. And that skirt is just perfect with it. I'm also LOVING your booties!!! Are they pretty comfy? I'm looking for something like that, and a pair from AT would be lovely! Let me know :)
ReplyDeleteThe booties are about as comfortable as 4" heels can get. Actually, I take that back. They're more comfortable than 4" heels because the short shaft hugs your ankles for better support. I was worried about the thin heels at first but surprisingly they dig enough into the ground where I actually walk at a normal pace. This was my 2nd pair of AT shoes and I love the leather on these, so buttery soft. I've seen similar versions for sale every season, so do keep your eyes out!
DeleteBeautiful outfit and great PFC :)
