Indigo Ink and Vintage Violet
Thursday, October 27, 2011Raise your hand if all these fall promos from the last few weeks (and counting) have been killing your wallet. I know mine's been feeling like a money tree, lol. Hopefully these upcoming reviews will be useful when the real fall sale rolls around in a few months.
New items I'm wearing:
1) Ann Taylor overlapping placket long sleeve blouse in indigo ink, size 00 (sold here) - It took me long enough, but I've finally realized AT's petite blouses do not work for me -- the sleeves are always too short for my liking (of course, just as I'm saying this, I roll up the sleeves. D'oh!) Likes: opaque, fits well, pretty color. Dislikes: material seems very high-maintenance and snags quite easily. I also picked it up in the crisp nougat color... but I'm still on the fence about which color to keep, if at all.
See it on Fast Food & Fast Fashion. Did anyone else pick this up?
2) J.Crew classic mini in felted wool in vintage violet, size 00P (sold here) - This skirt measures ~12.5" across the waist and ~15" in length down the center. Likes: the color is gorgeous. Dislikes: the inside lining ends about 1" above the hem and the wool is sort of itchy. I plan on returning this skirt because I think one size up will look better on me. It's a little too high-waisted as is, don't you think? In the meantime, it's never too early to start planning outfits around this skirt ;) Tights, suede shoes, cozy sweaters in neutral colors that I couldn't pair with my wool bell skirt.
belt: J.Crew piped glitter (similar; similar)
bracelet: Forever 21 chain link (similar; similar)
ring: Forever 21 delicate etchings (similar)
shoes: Ann Taylor covered platform bootie (this season's two-toned version; similar)

*raises hand* Thankfully, a lot of stuff is going back. I've totally lost track of how much I've bought, but in a few weeks after I make all my returns I'll assess the damage. I've been looking at that skirt, but it's still to expensive for my taste even with that 25% off J.Crew had. It's really high waisted? Hmmm. I don't like that.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the color of the skirt! I don't think you need to get a bigger size, but if you want the waist lower and the skirt to sit longer on your leg then go for it! It's too pretty to pass up
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is such a lovely color. The color of your necklace is perfect with this outfit. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the color of the felted mini, can't wait to see how else you'll style it! I ordered the same blouse in crisp nougat but returned because of the button placement. The weren't any buttons between the top and lower chest so if I wore it buttoned up there was a gaping hole which I didn't feel like finding a solution for.
ReplyDeleteme, me!! i spent wayyyy too much. have lots of jcrew reviews coming, too. the color of that skirt is so pretty. i agree, one size up should be perfect. i've found that ann taylor blouses just dont work for me in general. i've given up. i stick to their knits, skirts and shoes :)
ReplyDeleteEasy Petite Looks
I actually love that skirt on you Cee! I think one size up might give you too much room in the legs but you never know 'till you try it on right?! I love that Forever 21 chain link bracelet too!!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that skirt is going back!! I was thinking how curvy it makes you look! It is a sexy cut! Keep!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that blue, too!
I have not done any shopping in a long time! I will probably drag myself to the mall tomorrow. I just get so annoyed driving to the Strip area. Blah!
And about the belt...it is official...my work does not clean the bathroom floors because I see the sparkles from my belt all over the floors! Lol!
This outfit is fabulous! Love the color combo!
ReplyDeleteI loveeeee the skirt, but not the price.
ReplyDeleteOMG, i NEED this skirt!! i totally love the color on you!! i love how you paired it with a navy top and coral necklace. i agree that a size up might fit you better. oh how i wish this skirt would go on sale already! :)
ReplyDeletecute & little
I don't like the fit of the skirt although its a pretty color. The price is also too high for my liking. I am hearing that the fabric of the blouse is difficult to maintain --- this would be a deal breaker for me if the blouse was expensive.
ReplyDeleteGreat color combination, Cee! Blue and purple go so well together. The color of this skirt is stunning but there's just something off about the fit. I don't love the price either =) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. That 25% off at Jcrew definately killed me. That exact skirt is on it's way to me and I can't wait. Thanks for the inpiration for how to wear it. I am loving this color combo.
ReplyDeleteGoodness - the color of that skirt is amazing, gives the outfit such a pop of color! I love how you paired it with those awesome booties and beige jacket. So chic! Thanks for sharing.

This is a gorgeous color combo...might have to steal this one :)
ReplyDelete@Cher - You're smaller than me, right? If so, I think the skirt will sit lower on your waist. That's the reason I want to size up, for that more casual look.
ReplyDelete@Elissa - Yes, I feel a skirt like this would look better if it sits lower on my waist -- more casual and wouldn't look weird in heels.
@R.L. - Hmm, I didn't notice the button and gaping issue, but that probably means I'm not as proportioned as you :) I think I'm going to return both blouses too... I looked at the existing blouses in my closet and I already don't wear those enough, so I really shouldn't be adding more to the pile. Their sales sucked me in too easily :( haha.
@easy petite looks - Excited for your J.Crew reviews! If not for their darn final sales, it would be so much easier to buy, try, and return :)
@Callandra - Hmm, haven't thought about the leg issue. I'm wondering if by sizing up the skirt will take on a more a-line shape. If so, I think I can deal with that.
@Michelle - Lol, I actually have a waist, right?! I like this type of skirt to sit lower on the waist for a more casual feel though, so definitely planning on sizing up. Re your glitter belt: Now you make me want to inspect the floors at my office, hahaha. I hope that still means there's plenty of glitter left ON the belt!
@The Little Dust Princess, @kileen, @PetiteLittleGirl - Taking a wild stab here, and basing it on past skirt prices, but I'm guessing the skirt will eventually go on sale around ~$40 (sale + additional % off). Let's hope that's not wishful thinking on my part and there will be plenty sizes left to choose from!
@Jarucha - Do you like more of a flare shape to your skirts? J.Crew's city mini this year (looks the same as last season's wool bell skirt) also has a gorgeous purple color. I never buy duplicates, but I'm seriously thinking of getting that same skirt in another color, lol.
@Angela - Crossing my fingers that you will love it as much in person as I do!
@Anonymous - J.Crew certainly knocked it out of the park this fall/winter season with all their wonderful colors :)
I normally don't wear bright colors, but that color skirt looks so perfect with that outfit - definitely makes me want to try that color combo!
ReplyDeleteUm, yes. The fall sales have absolutely killed my wallet. But getting packages delivered to my door all of the time has been ridiculously fun, so I'll take it for now :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color of that J Crew skirt...that will be so awesome to remix into different outfits!
Oh wow Cee, these colors look stunning together on you! I actually think the mini skirt hits you at a good place. Do you prefer a lower-slung look?
ReplyDeleteI've been trying my hardest to avoid the sales (at least some of them) :)
beautiful Cee. i actually told Ping not to get this color. what a mistake bc here you look phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from you. Constructive criticisms welcome!
