Queen of Hearts

After passing on J.Crew heartthrob items last year, I patiently scoured eBay to no avail. A few weeks ago, I was ecstatic to see J.Crew re-release this print on their Factory site in a variety of styles (cardigan, skirt, umbrella, scarf). The price for the blouse is a bit steep at $98, so again begins the waiting game. Just as I was about to pull the trigger during a 30% off sale, I saw Khatu share a great dupe for $20, the Forever 21 Essential Georgette Heart Shirt (sold here). Heart print item craving satisfied.

Forever 21's version is coral/navy, whereas J.Crew's is red/black. The longer length of J.Crew's probably looks better on someone my height (~5'5"), but for the savings in price, I can't complain about Forever 21's. I like longer sleeves in general, so was pleasantly surprised to find the sleeve length to be even longer than I preferred.

A few other noteworthy details: hidden placket covers black buttons, uppermost button and cuff buttons are gold instead of black (nice touch), two large flap pockets (don't really care for), machine washable, pretty good quality (no loose threads), fairly wrinkle-resistant.

For reference, I'm wearing a size XS. Approximate measurements:
- length: 24"
- shoulder-to-shoulder: 14"
- sleeve length: 24"

Also see this top on Olyvia and Elvy.

    1. No static issues for me! I did wear a cotton tank underneath.

Did you notice most sizes for the J.Crew version sold out once the 30% promo hit?! Even if I wanted to buy it, I debated too long. Hope you get the chance to try on both.

  2. I can see why this is a great buy. I've been eyeing the J.Crew one too but like you said - the price is steep. This blouse looks and fits great on you (especially when paired with this tweed jacket)

  4. So cute on you! I was just looking at this on the Factory site earlier this week - love it when you can find a cheaper version (especially when it comes to non-staple items). :)

  6. I just bought the same top recently! I was soo happy I managed to find it in store. I find it a bit short in the front, but for the price, who can really complain?! Love the fun print against simple black pants.

    1. Yes! Why can't the length in front look like the back?! Alright, I'll stop with my complaints now too ;)

  9. Hi Christine! Thanks for linking the F21 Essential Georgette Heart Shirt. I saw it on Khatu's blog, but wasn't able to find the shirt on F21's site at the time. This is definitely a great dupe of the J.Crew items. =)

  11. I'm so envious that you and Khatu wear this shirt so chic! It must be my store lighting...because it looks weird orange color and boxy on me; I also reviewed it here. Now I want to go back to the store and take a second look, haha :)

    1. I'm sorry I missed your review, Olyvia. I've linked you now :)

I also find the shirt boxy, but I'm bigger than you so I fill out the shirt more. I can't say the same for the color though because it's def coral/navy in my eyes (which I love). I vote for giving this top a second chance too.

  14. I also picked this top up a couple of weeks ago at my store. Did a similar review too on my blog, Pigtails and Pearls. I found the length a bit of an annoyance too, at 5'4. But agree with you that the price was too good to pass up.
