Gray & Tweed

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

When we were kids, my brother and I would joke about what we wanted to be when we grew up. The only requirement for me was using a pager on the job (I sure am dating myself, but that's growing up in the 90s for ya). I remember my parents perking up and suggesting doctor as a profession (how typical, right?) Sorry mom and dad, I just don't have the drive and dedication for that. Thank goodness I wasn't serious about the pager because now I'm grateful my job only requires normal hours.

My brother on the other hand, wanted a job where he wore a suit everyday. I remember scratching my head at his response while my parents burst out laughing, telling him that dressing up will get old. Fast forward to the present and whatdoyouknow, he wears a suit and tie to work everyday. And actually enjoys it.

I'm most comfortable in casual clothes but sometimes I look around my closet and feel guilty that my business attire items don't see much daylight. So for today's look, I started with a pair of slacks then dressed it down with a long tee. I topped off the outfit with a tweed jacket, where the gray color scheme is also picked up from the metallic threading.

sunglasses: Xhilaration (sold in stores)
jacket: UniQUEEN Malang tweed (sold here)
top: Gap Pure longline tunic (sold here)
necklace: Forever 21 (similar)
ring: Forever 21 textured horse shoe (similar)
pants: Express Editor (this season's sold here)

  1. Ha, to carry a pager these days, you have to be either a doctor or a drug dealer. I will say though, the one advantage is that unlike a cell phone, you get a free pass to excuse yourself and check your messages whenever your pager goes off.

    1. LOL @ drug dealer. Wish I knew that as a kid because oh, I would've loved to see the speechless reactions on my parents, hahaha.

  3. Dang it...I was just in Gap last week and forgot to look for that tee! I was shopping for my nephew, so never made it to my section.

Always love seeing that jacket around the blogosphere. :)

    1. Aww, I can empathize. A couple of my friends have pagers for work and it drives me nuts when it goes off when we're hanging out. I shouldn't complain though because they have to put up with the beeping 24/7.

If you're still undecided, no worries, it won't be any hardship for me to wear the jacket on a constant basis until you pull the trigger ;)

  12. LOL pagers!

That jacket looks so good on you! For some reason that style blazer doesn't suit me. I feel like it makes me look shorter for some reason :P

    1. Hmm... perhaps wearing a high-waisted pair of trousers would work? It would elongate your legs and hopefully draw the eyes away from the blazer. I certainly wouldn't rule it out though because Jean/Khatu/Wendy all rock this blazer and they're shorter than us!

  13. Argh, these Uniqueen tweeds look SO good on everyone, but I am too cheap to shell out for it, lol. Love today's mix and really love that you re-wear items to show the versatility of said garment.
