Navy + White in Squares + Stripes

Friday, May 31, 2013

I really do love the first photo below. The framing, the posing, the colors... all except for that wonky right hand. What the heck?! Let's pretend I'm actually holding a bottle instead of awkwardly grasping the air. Next time, I'll have to remember to Photoshop an object in.

Have a great weekend!

Easy Does It

Checkmate

Monday, November 26, 2012

A few weeks back, I saw a J.Crew store mannequin wearing a navy peacoat with lilac pants (looked to be these two items). I immediately fell in love with the color combo and mentally added the items to my wishlist (even though I wasn't sure how many wears I'd get out of lilac pants).

Then while rummaging through my closet for a scarf, I re-discovered this lilac colored one hidden in the back. Two things immediately came to mind: (1) you know your closet's too big if you can't keep track of all the items in it :( and (2) even knowing the first point, I'm still itching to find a navy peacoat (with gold buttons). Perhaps this will be the perfect opportunity to donate the beige peacoat in my possession.

In the meantime, here's today's outfit featuring the navy + lilac color combo that's been on my mind far too long.

Black and Blue

Thursday, November 08, 2012

Colors that could be mistaken for others are pairings that I tend to stay away from. However, my options were limited if I wanted to wear a dark, tailored blazer with a turtleneck. So instead of wearing navy directly on black, I broke it up with a middle layer in gingham. Blue is now in the forefront, with black not as noticeable in the background.

Salmon Colored

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Good riddance. It's late October and the weather was in the high 70s today, with the same forecast for tomorrow. I, for one, can not wait to enjoy it.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Checkered

Thursday, October 11, 2012

I saw this Banana Republic ad in my inbox and loved the model's dark red cowl sweater paired with a gray blazer. I kept the same color scheme, but added hints of blue and leopard to create a casual version of her business attire. Ideally I would've swapped my gray blazer for one in brown/taupe, complete with elbow patches. Time to add that to my wishlist perhaps?

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Mixed Feelings

Monday, June 25, 2012

Today's outfit is one that looked better in person but even better in my head. Hmm... those feelings sure have been popping up an awful lot lately. Regardless, I'll add this to my collection of attempts at print mixing.

Happy Monday!

Same Old

Thursday, March 15, 2012

I thought I was trying something new with today's outfit... until I remembered this one from my archives. Same dress, same accessories, a jacket, different top (but worn the same way). Ahhh... chalk it up to faulty short term memory ;)

Vested

Monday, March 12, 2012

I usually buy new items with styling ideas in mind and how they would fit with my current wardrobe. Rarely do I buy new pieces together for a complete outfit. Many weeks ago, I did just this. I had pictured this white sleeveless blazer/vest over a cute LBD with pointy-toed shoes. The shoes were a success, the LBD not so much, and the vest I had to think over. I kept putting off the thinking until the return deadline passed, so now what do I do with a lab coat-like vest? I turned to my trusty gingham shirt for a preppy look. I also see potential with the vest paired with a floaty sundress, or with my white linen pants (just have to make sure I infuse some colors or I'll end up looking like Kobe).

How would you style a white sleeveless blazer?

Leap Day

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

I just found out there's a way to see what images have been pinned from your site. See mine for example. Simply keep "pinterest.com/source/" and replace my url with yours in the address bar. It's a double uh duh moment because I just realized that this section is also clearly visible on the left-side bar of each pin's page, under "Also from url."

For someone nosy like me, I should've caught this sooner, hahaha. I've been pleasantly surprised while scrolling through and seeing which outfits are more "popular" and reading people's descriptions. Don't let this knowledge of my stalking pins keep you from being honest ;)

Three Times the Fun

Friday, February 03, 2012

Oops, I did it again. What is it about gingham that I just can't resist?! That's a rhetorical question I'll save for a rainy day. Joining purple and pink, the newest addition is navy colored in larger squares. I picked it up when Vicky (many thanks!) blogged about an abercrombie kids' sale last week.

A quick comparison between the three gingham shirts that I own:

[from left to right] *measurements are approximate:
(1) abercrombie kids Samantha in navy/white plaid, size XL (sold here) - chest: 15" lying flat; sleeves: 23" long; length: 23"
(2) crewcuts Boys' popsicle gingham in shore purple, size 14 (tailored to slim the sides) - chest: 16" lying flat; sleeves: 22.5" long; length: 26"
(3) Hollister Clobberstones in pink check, size S - chest: 16.5" lying flat; sleeves: 25.5" long; length: 23.75"

Hollister's fabric has the most casual feel, almost flannel-like. abercrombie and crewcuts are both made of stiffer fabric with a dressier feel. I've tried on various kids' clothing over the years and this abercrombie shirt has the slimmest cut I've ever encountered. Wide and boxy stereotypes sure isn't true in this case. I'd recommend it for anyone my size or smaller. I bought the shirt for $19.80, but was able to get a price adjustment down to $9.90, thanks to the most patient and nicest SA. There's currently an additional 50% off redline items until tomorrow 2/4, so the shirt should still be $9.90 (free shipping with any girls' perfume purchase). ETA: I'm so sorry to say that I'm wrong about the price. I just read the fine print online. The online price already reflects the discount :(

Feelin' blue

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Pardon my almost-exact outfit from earlier in the week. This is what happens when I do laundry twice a week! I've definitely been guilty of wearing the same top on Monday and again on Friday during the same week =P I blame it on bad short-term memory and hope that none of my coworkers noticed and think I'm unhygienic lol. Anyways, I actually think the top is more appropriate for a more casual outfit, like my weekend outfit of the day, so here it is:

belt: Express
skirt: abercrombie
bangles/bracelets: Forever 21
flats: Miu Miu (similar)

Lazy weekend look

Saturday, July 03, 2010

A lazy weekend outfit with a touch of girliness is what I wore today. At first I wore the Merona necklace as a bracelet and topped it off with a bow. But after awhile, the layers that I wrapped around my hand started to get uneven... so it started to look a bit awkward. So much for me trying to be creative :P

tank: Old Navy (currently sold here)
belt: J.Crew
skirt: abercrombie
bracelet: Merona necklace
