Fall is officially upon us (as of one week ago). As much as I'm looking forward to wearing layers, it's hard to completely let go of summer. To compromise, I've been experimenting with wearing fall-like colors of burgundy and dark green as the weather fluctuates between slightly cool and slightly warm.
Neon pink is a color that I jumped on board with two summers ago. I figured it'd be a fun trend to try, but I'd quickly tire and move on to the next fad. For the most part, this was true. However, when summer rolls around the years since, I find myself reaching for this bright color time and time again.
Pink colors in general work well with blue shades. Like with my fuchsia pants, I wore neon pink quite often with navy. I also wasn't afraid to pair this bright pink with another bright color, but do make a conscious effort to balance out the rest of the outfit with neutrals.
For neon pink tees currently on the market, try: one, two, three. For neon pink gingham shirts currently on the market, try: one, two, three.
I can't get enough of these red loafers! I tend to play it safe with my shoe choices, but these have been surprisingly easy (not to mention, comfortable) to pair with casual or dressy items in varying colors and patterns (also see previous two posts). So much so that I'm seriously considering breaking my no-duplicates-rule and buying a backup pair.
The sun glare was way too bright when I took photos for today's outfit, so I figured I'll color correct in Lightroom later. Unfortunately my skills aren't up to par =/ However, I did manage to capture the details via my iPod later on in the day.
I got a haircut over the weekend. This is news because my hair hasn't been this short since... I was a toddler? I hadn't considered anything besides my usual trim of ~3" until my stylist asked if I want my hair just long enough so I can tie it back. Nahh, let's go shorter this time, I spontaneously decided. I couldn't bring myself to get bangs, so this is the next best drastic change.
I think I look more mature post-haircut because I've always (unreasonably) associated short hair with adults. More older people have short hair compared to younger people, therefore I must look older now. You know, correlation equals causation and all that. Wrong. DH jokingly said, "Will you go to prom with me?" upon seeing my new haircut. My stylist remarked that I looked younger than before. Older, younger... neither is a bad thing to embrace. I'm just happy to cut down the amount of time it takes to wash, blow dry, and straighten my hair.
Red/white/blue is a favorite color combo of mine, but one which I haven't worn much of lately. To remedy that, here's a version in darker shades that's appropriate for the fall-like weather we've having.
Today's look is yet another office appropriate outfit. That increases the tally for this week to a whopping two (a first for me in a long time). No worries, I'll be back to wearing casual outfits the rest of my weekend... which starts now.
There are some color combinations that I instantly associate with random things. Black and red remind me of checkers (which I don't particularly have fond memories of), so I prefer not to wear just the two together. Brown and red on the other hand, I love, which makes brown an easy choice as the third color option for today's outfit.
Posts on the blog have been sporadic as of late. Shrugs. Life happens. At the start of this week, I vowed to try my hardest to blog everyday. It's only Tuesday and I'm slacking. Well, the day isn't technically over until midnight, right? So with 2.5 hrs to go, a new outfit post!
Today isn't my typical caffeine-guzzling-while-running-out-the-door-because-I'm-late-again Monday. Today I had no problems waking up early because I know after putting in my usual hours at the office, I can run home and park my behind on the couch for the rest of the night. Nadal/Djokovic. Redskins/Eagles. Ahh... I hope the two do not overlap. Otherwise I'll have one eye glued to the TV while the other focuses on the live stream on my laptop.
Summer... fall... the weather's been pretty fickle lately. I'd be wearing jeans and booties in the morning but changing to shorts by the afternoon. Hey, if this is the extent of my problems, I sure can't be complaining.
Today's look is inspired by an outfit from the DSquared2 Resort 2012 campaign. I love the camel/pink/orange combo on the model and wanted to try my hand using pieces from my closet. I do like how my outfit turned out but think there may be too much color on top? DSquared2 got it right by separating out camel and pink into top and bottom pieces.
For today's look, I'm branching out of the blues and reds that I've worn much too often as of late. This golden mustard colored top should be an easy transition piece as summer turns into fall. It's perfect as a standalone piece now, or as the weather cools, layered with sweaters/cardigans/blazers in assorted colors.
It's been quite the eventful long weekend for me. Spent time with out-of-town visitors (cousins and Elle), outlet shopping, celebrating my dad and grandmother-in-law's birthdays, and about to squeeze in a few episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Hope you had a great weekend!
